The Chinese Transliteration of Torah

————在《犹太人的“四书”》一文中,你说犹太人圣经的第一部分名叫“托辣”(Torah)
————没错。
————在汉语中,我这是头一次看到在译名中用“辣”这个字,通常都是用“拉”这个字。为什么你要翻译成“托辣”,而不是“托拉”?
————“托辣”这个译名不是我首创,这个译名至少存在几十年了。你说的“托拉”这个译名我也见过。之所以选用“托辣”而不是“托拉”,是为了区分字母R和字母L。Torah中有个字母R,而不是字母L。
————用“拉”来翻译读音Ra在汉语中很常见呀。有必要这样仔细区分吗?
————你说得没错。用“勒”的声母来音译字母R在汉语中是很常见的现象。 比如1995年遇刺身亡的以色列前总理Yitzhak Rabin,汉语中他的姓Rabin就被广泛称为“拉宾”。还有美国第40任总统Ronald Reagan就被称为“罗纳德·里根”。
————那你还用“托辣”?
————这样做是为了区分R和L。
————为什么呀?你不是刚刚说了用“勒”的声母来音译字母R在汉语中是很常见的现象吗?
————因为在希伯来语中字母R和字母L的区分很明显。Torah在希伯来文中由四个字母组成:Tav、Vav、Resh、He。其中的He是阴性结尾,不发音;字母Resh和隐性词尾He在一起读作Ra(普通话中没有对应,勉强用“辣”表示);Vav在其中读音似“摸”的韵母。所以Torah的读音和Tora是一模一样的。如果我不区分R和L的话,那么就不能区分Tora和Tola。
————不能区分就不能区分呗,我没觉得Tora和Tola有很大的区别。
————我相信你确实觉得Tora和Tola没什么区别。但是在我看来,这两个词的区别很明显。“托辣”包含五卷,其中第一卷是Bereishit(即通常所说的“创世纪”),这卷的第46章第13节列出“以撒哈尔”(即通常所说的“以萨迦”——以色列的一个儿子)的几个儿子的名字,其中第一个列出的是“托拉”(Tola)。在我看来,作为上帝教导的“托辣”和作为伊萨哈尔之子的“托拉”,两者在书写上、读音上和意义上的区别很明显。
