Peres among thousands stranded due to volcanic ash cloud in Europe

A huge ash cloud from an Icelandic volcano turned the skies of northern Europe into a no-fly zone on Thursday, stranding hundreds of thousands of passengers, among them President Shimon Peres.

A huge ash cloud from an Icelandic volcano turned the skies of northern Europe into a no-fly zone on Thursday, stranding hundreds of thousands of passengers, among them President Shimon Peres.

The ash cloud also disrupted air traffic between Israel and European destinatuions, with flights grounded to destinations including London and Paris.

El Al, British Airways and Easy Jet all canceled flights between Israel and the U.K., and El Al also grounded flights to Brussels and Amsterdam. Brussels Airlines also canceled flights to Ben-Gurion airport, as did Dutch airline KLM.
