Emil Draitser, author of “Shush! Growing Up Jewish Under Stalin,” a whimsical but also painful memoir about the fate of the Jews in the Soviet Union, will be taking the stage in the ALOUD series at the Central Library at 7:00 p.m. on February 3, 2010. Joke-telling is always a form of resistance, but when it comes to Stalin, the humor is very black.

I've recently become close with Abe and Frank, two older guys in my neighborhood. At 90 and 88 respectively, they’re not the typical age of my other friends.
