Transportation dept. permits ISNOGOD license plate

This is different than in Florida, where the religiously themed license plate would have been designed by the state’s motor vehicle bureau, but he is some more vanity plate drama. From the Religion Clause blog:

In Bismarck, North Dakota, the state’s Department of Transportation director has granted the appeal of a Fargo resident, Brian Magee for the issuance of a personalized license plate reading ISNOGOD. Yesterday’s Bismarck Tribune reports that in his appeal Magee had argued that the state had authorized personalized plates advocating religions, such as ILOVGOD. In his appeal, Magee had urged his preferred alternative option—refusing all religious messages on plates.

I can’t help but think this was a test case, that Magee applied for the personalized plate in hopes that his application would get denied and that, on appeal, he could get the transportation department to ban all faith-based license plates.

If such plates were banned in California, El Satan might have a problem with that; maybe this guy too, though he just might be a dog lover.
