Gwyneth Paltrow to raise Apple and Moses as Jews

Moses is a Jewish name, obviously. Apple ... not so much.

Turns out that Gwyneth Paltrow’s father’s family comes from a long line of Ashkenazi rabbis, and now Paltrow has decided she will raise her children Jewish. The Daily Mail reports:

Her decision is a far cry from comments she made last year about her experience of being raised as both Jewish and Christian.

‘It was such a nice way to grow up,’ she said, but later added: ‘I don’t believe in religion. I believe in spirituality. Religion is the cause of all the problems in the world.’

Technically, of course, Moses and Apple are not Jewish. So what will it mean for Paltrow, who is not halachically Jewish and whose husband is Christian, to raise her kids Jewish?
