Attackers shouted ‘Jew! Jew!’ while sexually assaulting CBS’ Logan

Like basically everyone, I was beyond disturbed to read Tuesday that Lara Logan, CBS’ chief foreign correspondent, had been sexually assaulted for 20 to 30 minutes by a mob of Egyptians while covering the revolutionary protests. Sickening.

This detail, via the New York Post, makes the attack even more disturbing:

A network source told The Post that her attackers were screaming, “Jew! Jew!” during the assault. And the day before, Logan had told Esquire.com that Egyptian soldiers hassling her and her crew had accused them of “being Israeli spies.” Logan is not Jewish.

We already knew that a rabbi’s mere presence in Egypt could cause an uproar. No wonder many American Jews are a bit wary about what happens next with Israel-Egyptian relations.
