Dan Gilgoff tipped me to a new analysis from the Pew Forum that found the majority of mainline Protestants—those are you Lutherans and Presbyterians and Episcopalians, et al—want homosexuality to be accepted by society. The above graph summarizes the data, which really isn’t surprising. It is important to note that the is a big difference between American Baptists and Southern Baptists.

Religion is not a democracy. Religion is a physical and ideological expression of the will of God. Meaning it doesn’t matter what some number of human beings feel would be a cool thing to do, but how they substantiate God’s will. Or Will. How are they doing that in this poll? Or don’t waste our time.

well, consider that “mainline” seems to be synonymous with “liberal”, and also with “declining membership”.  without that additional information, the casual reader may wrongly assume this poll represents the “mainstream”.
