Israel and Palestinian Authority reportedly accept peace plan; Hamas says they prefer war

This is why some Arabs are blaming Hamas for Israel’s assault on Gaza. Peace between the Jewish state and those hell-bent on destroying it? Um ... not likely. From JTA:

Israel and the Palestinian Authority have accepted a truce plan for Gaza, French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced.

A Lebanon-based Hamas representative and Islamic Jihad rejected the plan, however.

Israel did not confirm its acceptance following Sarkozy’s announcement Wednesday afternoon, but a statement released from the Prime Minister’s Office read that “Israel thanks Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and French President Nicolas Sarkozy for their efforts to advance a solution for halting terrorist actions from Gaza and the smuggling of war materiel into the Gaza Strip from Egypt. Israel views as positive the dialogue between Egyptian and Israeli officials in order to advance these issues.”

The details of the plan have not been released.

Israel government spokesman Mark Regev told The Associated Press after the announcement that Israel could accept the proposal, unveiled Tuesday night by Mubarak, if the plan stops rocket fire from Gaza and includes serious measures to prevent Hamas from obtaining arms through Egypt.

A statement from Sarkozy’s office said, “The president is delighted by the acceptance by Israel and the Palestinian Authority of the Franco-Egyptian plan presented last night in Sharm el-Sheikh by President Hosni Mubarak.”

The Hamas representative,  Osama Hamdan, said the plan is unacceptable, Ynet reported.

“There is no need to get excited over the Israeli agreement that was published,” Hamdan said. “Israel’s objective is to gain time in order to continue its offensive.”

Israel continued its war effort to eradicate Hamas today after taking a brief break to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Good for Isreal, Its about time that someone does something about Hamas and Hezbollah. I dont think that they should have to meet any demands from a group of terrorists I think they have every right to shut down there borders whith Gaza what would you like them to do they are sorounded by People who what them whiped of the Earth. Isreal should probably start droping bombs on Syria they are the ones letting Hamas stay , I mean Hamas openly supports suicide bombers. those radical palestinians have lost their minds.

Let Fatah take over Gaza strip. It will be better in long run for Palestinians to have one country. If Fatah announces the take over of Gaza today, the hostilities will stop. With the level of things as they stand now, Fatah, with the help of the rest of the Arab world, and the goodwill of the UN and European countries, will be able to rein in and disarm Hamas.

We need global peace in the New Year. Hamas and the Radical Islam should make Obama’s work easy. If they really believe in humanity, they should accept on a compromise terms not only on their own terms. The new world is a mediated world, mediated on the fact the blood of humanity is one and the pain of humanity is one. There is no Israel pain, there is no Palestinian pain. It is all human pain. Humanity should solve this problem because of the common human blood and human pain.

Damned Hamas. The only reason Israel launched an offensive was because of the fact that they constantly fired rockets at Israel. The casualties are bad, but Israel shouldn’t be blamed for the fact that Hamas uses their “people” as human shields! They shouldn’t even be called their people as Hamas isn’t serving the people’s needs. They just look at Gaza like a rocket launchpad, and the people as a meat shield. They are absolutely completely at fault. I only wish people could see that. If there was a united front with Arabic nations and Israel, and they finally cracked down on Hamas, then none of these casualties would have happened!

Jesus says when confronting an enemy when he strikes you in the face, turn and let him stike your other-without fighting back—-however jesus didn’t have to face the cowards of HAMAS—there too chicken to even face you-they just sent there rockets over and aim at non-military citizens.  I am proud of Israel—they did turn the other cheek for a long time-then they kicked the enemies butt—I’m sure Jesus would be proud also—this war is gonna bite the HAMAS in the Butt—the palestinians are even informing the public how these cowards are firing rockets wright in the middle of there cities—COWARDSSSS

The Hamas are worse then pigs.  Pigs will do whatever it takes to protect there piglets not hide behind them.  The Hamas hide behind the skirts of their women and fire rockets where their kids live, what a cowardly animal the Hamas is.

Hamas is not a terrorist organization. They only terrorist organization is Israel. They are the ones who took over Palestinian land, continuously imprison innocent young men who throw stones? Give me a break. Hamas is the only defense that the Palestinian population have. You talk about suicide bombings, but you never think of the reason behind them. When curfews are constantly being put on you, you can barely go to school, there are announcements in which men the ages 15-60 should go somewhere on this day at this time to be interrogated, and then arrested for absolutely no reason. Thousands of innocent palestinian men are put in prisons where they are abused, interrogated in the worst possible way, no visitations are allowed and they are constantly beaten while blindfolded.  You call Hamas cowards? they have no planes, they don’t have the right weapons. The US. supplies Israel with the weapons and money. Israel is the coward, they are the ones firing from planes, destroying homes, killing innocent mothers, fathers, children. Palestinians barely have any food, no weapons, not enough hope. Then you go and say how dare they commit a suicide bombings? When all hope of a good life is taken away from you, and your mother is killed and your father and brothers are taken from you, would you not want vengeance? You are in such a state of hopelessness and pain that you see no other way. Before you judge put yourself in their place. You also say that Hamas was hiding in the school. You actually believe that? An U.N official from there has said that that wasn’t true. No one from hamas was anywhere near that school when it got bombed. It was just an excuse for the Israeli army to take more Palestinian blood.

Titus Oyeyemi said “Let Fatah take over Gaza strip.”...wasn’t it quite recently that Hamas, in a matter of hours, took over Gaza from an inept Fatah?  So I don’t think that’s going to work.

Israel is simply another attempt by the West to colonize the Middle East.  The Crusades ultimately failed, and so too will Israel, as soon as America is no longer there to protect them.

What are there, around 7 million Israelis?  Surrounded by a rapidly growing population of probably around 200 million Arabs?  Common sense indicates that the Israelis will not win.  It’s just a metter of time.

Though most of you won’t believe it, I am not anti-Israeli, nor am I pro-Arab.  I’m an American and I really don’t care much one way or the other, but I am a realist and I think that the outcome to this is pre-determined.  Instead of calling the Arabs crazy and insisting that they accept peace on Israeli terms, you’d do well to think long-term and understand that you will not win.

Comment by James on 1/08/09 at 1:11 am

Neither israel nor hamas is interested in peace! In the world of poltics human lives mean very little to those who pull the strings of conflict. The palestinian people are the ones who suffer the most, they are the scapegoats…the sacrificial lambs. In this war between jews and muslims, they are the ones who have been assigned the role of martyrdom by the arab world, which is why the arab community just stands around and watches while their brothers are killed, maimed and murdered;all of this justified in the name of defence of religious faith!
Truly,i doubt that peace can ever be acheived in a region where one believes that he is happy and content only when his neighbour is dead!

This rejoinder is directed at James. James, I want to thank you for your comments, which according to you is based on realities: realities of numbers, realities of confrontation, realities of might and power, realities of violence, realities of wars, to name a few. But for how long will humanity fail to use the power of the truth to defeat the vagaries of realities? How long will it take humanity to pass Class 101 of peaceful co-existence? How long will it take humanity to realise that as sentient beings, we suffer pain together. How long will it take before humanity will understand the the concept of universal pain? How long will it take recognize that the “cry of the family” is the same, no matter the geographic location of the victimized. How long will it take us to realize that the “blood that flows in our veins” is the blood of humanity, not the blood of Jews, Arabs, Britons, of Germans, Egbas or Aworis? Not even the blood of Christianity or Islam for that matter? For how long will humanity stop to short-change itself? No nation has ever won a war! Humanity is the ultimate loser of all wars! Let us all use the truth of our humanity to resolve our conflicts together. Whether you kill by apache or by infusing yourself as a sucide bomber you are committing a crime against humanity. Whether you oppress by religion, ideology, position or status, including wealth or intellect, you are committing a crime against humanity. No matter what you think, history has made it clear to us that humanity is suffering together. We have to work together to tackle our sufferings together. Our goal should be to de-escalate human sufferings on this terrestrial ball call the earth, not to aggravate or escalate it. And a little bit of history to whosoever may care. The Arabs did not become a world power until some 600 years ago through the religion of Islam. Egypt, North Africa, Asia, etc. were never before Arabs. Neither were the Palestines the first people to occupy the territories known today as Palestine. The truth is that all the inhabitants of the earth are a tenant. God owns the land. According to Martin Lurther King Junior, human beings are mere occupiers of a large apartment building. If that is the case, then we have to devise ways and means to mediate our conflicts so that we can live peacefully and happily together. And we should teach that truth to our children.

Comment by Titus Oyeyemi on 1/08/09 at 8:55 am

I agree with Titus Oyeyemi, very well put. In this world, we live in total ignorance of our unity. Our world is one, and the only way to live among others is to realize not through our differing regions, differing ethnicities, differing skin color, differing languages and cultures, but as co-inhabitants in this planet, whose story involves struggling to meet the needs of everyday living, and that is complicated with the mentality, of whose needs, whose land, whose superior and so forth, neglecting the very needs that all of us share. We breath the same air, we eat the same food materials, and yet, we cannot past this, because of the ingrained habit in our head, that our neighbors has cheated us, and thus we harbour hatred to the end. What has history of war told us thus far? We all see, the after-effects that no one is really justified. The solution is not through reasoning whose right and whose wrong, whose more justified in their purpose. But to see for sure, in our eyes, that we are in fact, just co-inhabitants of this world. The founders of religion, Christ, Allah, or Moses, never meant for us to suffer, only to create an increased awareness, that maybe we transcend the boundaries of color, land, or creed, and yet those who guard it distort it, and analyze it into their thinking, making hatred their message, to plunge into war, and to kill their enemies, thus many jihad nowadays are formed. Blindly those who hear such messages, have become the messagers not of Allah, or Christ, or Moses, but messagers of hatred. Thus, reasoning that does not arise, because one becomes unduly blinded, like that of fanatic. What hope can we achieve, when there are people who distort religions and whose followers spreads violence and hostility to the end?

I would like to ask these questions and if you can answer them, please feel free.
What was the Palestinian President M.ABBAS doing before now about the virus(HAMAS)eating away the peace of his nation?
Does he not control the Antidote (military Might) there? Why has he not run down this virus before now, afterall the GAZA is just a STRIP?
Tell you what, this action of lossing the strip in hours according to a previous comment by Truth on 1/07/09 at 8:01 pm“...wasn’t it quite recently that Hamas, in a matter of hours, took over Gaza from an inept Fatah? are all cordinated attempt by a bunch of terrorist who think that they have the right to dictate the right to existence of the ISREALI nation. Need i say that they have always failed, and will continue to fail. Right under their noses Isreal was born in one day!(1948)and they will continue to exist.
I am indeed surprised that the cheif terrorist(IRANIAN PRESIDENT) has not comment yet, just maybe he would asked that the HAMAS or the (EBOLAR VIRUS) HEZBOLLAH be given the nukes instead of rockets.

Comment by Johnson Bamidele on 1/08/09 at 4:55 pm

let’s see, what does gaza strip have to offer back as a society? Tourism, no no one want’s to go there because of the islamic extremist,oh yah suicide bomber’s and rockets. You know this thing we call humanitarian aid is the reason there abel to commit terrorism. they don’t have to work. we feed them, we shelter them we give them fuel, we give them money & in return they give us terrorism. they build rockets & bomb vest for there past time - cut off the liberilism of giving & they will trade you rockets for food or starve
