Catholic League to Huckabee: Stop selling your Christian creds like a used-car salesman

Posted by Brad A. Greenberg

The snickering and sniping over the supposed subliminal message in Mike Huckabee’s Christmas ad is just silly. But, I can’t say I’ve ever agreed more with a statement from the Catholic League’s Bill Donahue.

“Every other word out of [Huckabee’s] mouth is that ‘I’m Christian.’ He’s calling into question Romney’s Mormonism…let people talk about there faith, but don’t sell it on your sleeve.”

Added Donahue, “Yeah, I believe in freedom of speech and freedom of religion, but don’t become a salesman. Don’t hawk it like that on the street.”

I don’t believe in “talking” about faith. Faith is best when shown through actions.

It would be must better if people decided to concentrate of their actions instead of words

This is the hypocrisy which is starting to hurt believers big time. It would be much much better if those at the helm of things actually did something good instead of throwing bricks at one another

Unfortunately that’s what people wants to hear, “they give the crowd what they want to hear”. I’ve heard a very intelligent phrase: “We have the government we deserve to have”.

The tv ad played well with my church.  I live in Pennsylvania and many Christian’s here supported Huckabee mainly b/c he was seen as a man of faith.

Unfortunately religion is a subject people are never going to agree on. Everyone who has faith strongly believes theirs is the right way and there will be no changing their mind.

it would be more intelligent that they focus on their duty rather than on words

To tell you the truth, I’m seeing in regard to religion, in fact it is one of the worst scourges of humanity is invented! Religion is the pretext of war for thousands of years and unfortunately this does not stop because people will never agree and intolerance is a feeling human!

Religion is something people are never going to agree on because its something they feel so strongly about. Why not just put aside the pettiness and concentrate on what really matters.

Every Christian will spread the word in their own way and some are more forceful than others, doesn’t make one person right over the other.

Comment by Van lease on 8/27/09 at 10:13 am

I would agree. There is nothing worse than seeing people preach in the street like a car salesman having a bad day selling.

Comment by van lease uk on 9/09/09 at 10:47 am

I think its a difficult thing to tell people what’s right and wrong as everyone will have a different view point depending upon what church they attend and the influences there.

Comment by Property Addict on 10/07/09 at 9:17 am

I think my head gonna explode from indignation! Don’t get me wrong, but it seems to me that Donahue is a theocrat who is worried just about :the mormon “theos” might get to do all the “cratting”. I just wonder what’s the real reason of his nervous behavior?

Comment by dildo on 10/09/09 at 8:32 am

I agree religion is a personal thing and shouldn’t be hawked about on the street.

Comment by Ivan on 11/10/09 at 5:24 am

Why not preach religion on the street? After all didn’t Jesus do the same thing to build his following? People who are religious at some point have been ‘converted’. Does it really matter where this takes place?
