Baby Jesus in a gay nativity

Posted by Brad A. Greenberg

You’d sort of expect that if there are gay renditions of the Last Supper that there woild also be similar variations of the nativity. Not to disappoint, Amsterdam hosted Sunday a Christmas celebration for the gay community that was complete with a nativity that included a man in drag made up like the Virgin Mary.

From the Associated Press:

Frank van Dalen, chairman of the advocacy group Pro Gay that organized the event, known as Pink Christmas, said that it sought to raise Amsterdam’s profile as a capital for gays.

Van Dalen said the event cost €15,000, or $20,800, and that it had been sponsored by the City Council. He added that he hoped it would become a regular attraction, as is the gay pride parade that brings tens of thousands of visitors to Amsterdam each year.

“Our objective is not to be offensive,” he said. “This is about visibility.”

Nevertheless, Christians for Truth, an independent religious group, asked the City Council to cancel the event, saying it made a mockery of Christian tenets. “By portraying Joseph and Mary as homosexuals, a twisted human fantasy is being added to the history of the Bible,” the group said in a statement.

Frankly, this is ridiculous—both the Ru Paul nativity and the outrage of Christians for Truth. Besides, the guy wearing the straps and the bearded dude in short shorts—I think that’s Joseph—are much more disturbing.

Whew. I took my medication, as Web Guy suggested. I took the red pill. I can now see clearly. Thanks Guys.

Ha. This post then poses a difficult dilemma for you. Based on past comments, I’d gander that you find homosexuality to be an abomination, but it also seems you find Christianity to be greatly disturbing. Now that you say you’ve seen the light, care to share it with us?

By the way, I was as surprised by you to learn of the ad for MeetGayCouples.com. To be clear, though, that ad appeared in a portion of the page that is filled with Google Ads. Those advertisements are not sold by our business side, but are auto-filled by Google based on story key words. Similary, ads for Muslima.com, a Muslim dating service have appeared there.

Did you see my latest Blog, or did you find out about the gay dating service from my comment? Christians are some of Israel’s best supporters, but a “Jewish Journal” is not really the best place for a lot of Christian religious related content. As for Homosexuality, that is their choice, and obviously I think it should be a right in America. But again, it is like an ad for Ham in a Jewish Journal, everyone has the right to eat ham, it just should not be promoted in a “Jewish” Journal, which apparently this is not.

I am surprised I was the only one to see the real intent by the Coens in NCFOM. Actually a few very knowledgeable Rabbis agreed with me.
That movie is very very deep religiously, and has significant Kabbalah content throughout. Much deeper than Matrix.

I left the above comments and then I saw your most recent blog post. “Jewish jUrinal”—that’s a new one. Quite clever.

There are some people who would agree that a Jewish Web site should not include a blog that writes about the collective world of religion. But, like Ben Plonie commented, this is not the Jewish Press. And there are many in the community who share my opinion that the more knowledgeable people of faith are about each other the better.

The God Blog was named ‘Best Individual Weblog’ by the Los Angeles Press Club at their annual award ceremony over the summer.

It is our most popular blog, and Brad is a cherished colleague

We do not discriminate in hiring, and I challenge you to find a better religion reporter for a local weekly.

Brad’s thorough, objective, insightful and a great asset to our editorial department.

And I’m proud to call him a friend.

I agree with Leaf, that this story is like ham. What is it doing in the JEWISH Journal? Maybe in a Gay or Christian Journal it would make sense. But to be fair I’d have never have known about this ‘important’ gay nativity story if it wasn’t for Brad (slightly rolling my eyes).

I am sure Brad’s a wonderful person. But by his own admission though, he “lacks a Jewish education”, and he stated himself there is a religion writer at your organization that covers religious issues. Having said that, to quote a “Rabbi” that states that one can follow Jewish law and still be a thief, is a defamation against the Jewish people, a crime worse than Madoff’s, because ultimately is it a crime against Jews, and G-D.
I noticed Brad acknowledged the mistake in the comments but never bothered to correct the article.
If he “is not a Jew by choice”, why has he chosen Christianity? Maybe he holds some misapprehensions and biases against Judaism that I can clear up for him, although Judaism prevents proslytizing, so I am not looking for him to become Jewish.

As for winning an award, here in “Bloomfield”, we try to judge things on their individual merits, rather than by what other people think. Thats why I challenge commonly held misconceptions, like all the lies and negativities about Judaism and Jews your organization promotes.

Thanks for the advice about taking the red pill. I am happy I now see reality. I was going to take the blue pill. Now I am more determined than ever to help those enslaved by your organization’s cynical fantasy world, see the truth about Zion.

To the left, nothing is sacred except the profane. Their obscene display of the nativity is offensive but hardly raises an eyebrow anymore. To the Jewish people, please remember, they have no respect for you or your faith either. As an Evangelical, I count myself as a Zionist and a friend of Israel, despite it’s tolerance of this sort of obscene behavior. However, to my point, if you’ll notice, despite Israels liberal politics, (abortion and homosexuality) the left takes up with the Palestinian side consistantly. They call Israel all the names we usually reserve for faciasts with no regard for your sensativity to that evil. Additionally, the left tends to convert to Islam at a far greater rate than to Judiasm or Christianity which makes me believe that they are no friends of the G-d we worship. Those of you that feel any animosity to biblical Christians should consider that bible believing Christians are possibly the only reliable friends Israel or the Jewish diaspora have in this world, the rest are in the other camp. To life!

Mr. Courtney: Right on! I believe the evangelicals are much more Zionist, than Israelis. Thank you for your support. Things are gonna get very rough but hey, these things gotta happen every five years or so, ten years. Helps to get rid of the bad blood. Been ten years since the last one. You know, you gotta stop them at the beginning. Like they should have stopped Hitler at Munich, they should never let him get away with that, they was just asking for trouble.

What the Hell happened to my comment.  These right-wing a**holes spew their crap, but others can’t speak their minds unless we feed the already bloated egos

Hateful anti-Christian rants are just as unacceptable as anti-Semitic rants.

Hate speech will be deleted without notice and repeated offenders will be banned.

Personal attacks and profanity are also unacceptable.

There is no place for hate on JewishJournal.com
