Bruce Pearl suffered a big hit after all the infractions by losing his coach job at Tennessee. Unfortunately, for Pearl that was the least of his problems. The NCAA is expected to announce today that Pearl will have a 3-Year ban from coaching in the NCAA.
His assistants, Tony Jones, Steve Forbes and Jason Shay, will all receive a 1-year sentence. All three have moved on. Jones is coaching High School in Knoxville and Forbes and Shay working at a junior college in Florida. Pearl has yet to be hired, but his name was floating around for an NDBL head coaching position.
This completely stinks for Pearl, but I can’t say I am surprised. I know Pearl will coach again and work his way up the ranks. Since the incident Pearl has been who he always is, a man. He has taken his punishment and understood his wrong doing. I believe he will be back on top one day.

About a year and a half ago Taylor Mays was all the craze. TGR followed his story closely. Mays fell past the firs round into the 2nd. But we felt that going to the 49ers was a great opportunity. The hard hitting safety could play for one of the hardest hitting linebackers of all-time in Mike “Samurai” Singletary. While Mays showed flashes of greatness, he never truly made an impact.
Enter Jim Harbaugh, another ex-Bear, who knows the feel of a hard hitter but Mays again could not find his spot. He has apparently bulked up and came into camp in great shape. But it was not enough. So the 49ers shipped Mays off to Cincinnati, where Mays will get a shot with the Bengals. Hopefully, this wakes up Mays and lets him become the star we always believed he could be. Click HERE to read more about the trade.

The rumors, like every summer, are swirling around Brett Favre once again. This time because Colts’ Jewish (Father) owner Jim Irsay tweeted “Brad, I’m in Hattiesburg ... is it right or left at the Firechief?” Hattiesburg is Favre’s residential city, where he has been “hibernating.”
This scenario is not so outrageous for two reasons. The first is the obvious. Favre has trouble staying away. This situation would be perfect. A solid team. Great receiver around him. The second reason is because the Colts seem to need a backup/on-loan quarterback. With Peyton Manning’s neck injury still being an issue, the Colts need someone to come in, lead, and be a veteran. Favre is the perfect fit. Yes, he is old. But they don’t need a full season. Just a few games to hold over until the best quarterback in the game is ready to go.
Favre might also put a little life back into the Colts who have not been as dominate recently. Favre’s presence might drive the team and Manning to get back to Championship form.
The only negative is that the Colts don’t see the Packers…unless its in the Super Bowl….I’d for sure watch that.
And Let Us Say…Amen.

While most players are searching for the best for an international team to latch onto, Luke Walton has decided to stay in the country. Walton will be an assistant for Josh Pastner at Memphis. Pastner is probably the most recognizable NCAA Jewish coach with Bruce Pearl leaving Tennessee. Pastner and Walton played together at Arizona for Lute Olsen back in ‘99-‘00.
This is a great move for both. For Walton it gives him something productive to do during the lockout. He can stay in shape by running with the team. Also, it begins to carve out his life after his playing days. For Pastner he gets a solid NBA role model for his players. Now recruits know they will have some NBA spotlight and eyes on them when they come to Memphis. It will also bring some fresh knowledge to Pastner’s young coaching career as Walton has learned from Phil Jackson.
Pastner thinking outside the box. Love it.

A day after Michael Schwimer got the call up by the Phillies, the Boston Red Sox call up Ryan Lavarnway. Lavarnway, was swinging a hot bat in AAA. This season he has 30 homers between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket while hitting .293. He’s hit .301 in 55 games with the PawSox. Click HERE to read more about Lavarnway’s call up.
Unfortunately for us Jews his call up is due to Kevin Youkilis’ back injury. Youk was placed on the 15 Day DL. Bad news for the Red Sox in the midst of a playoff race. Click HERE for more on Youk’s injury.
Lavarnway is batting 7th tonight against the Royals while playing DH. He is currently 0-3.
Good luck to Lavarnway. I wish a Jewish player got called up every day. Can tomorrow make it 3 for 3.

With the Phillies’ Joe Blanton headed to the 60 day DL and Placido Polanco going to the 15 day DL they call up Michael Schwimer (no relationship to David or so we think). Schwimer was 9-1 in AAA with 10 Saves and a 1.88 ERA. He had 86 strikeouts in 67 innings.
This is great news for the Jews, since we were very let down by the Kipnis story. Schwimer should finish the season with the Phillies because even when Blanton returns they will soon be going to the expanded rosters.
Schwimer joins a ridiculously loaded pitching staff. What his role will be is yet to be known. For more click HERE or HERE.
Watch out for more call ups soon.
And Let Us Say…Amen.
