Religious groups in German city fighting Israel boycott

Pro-Israel and Jewish organizations in a German city are fighting back against a local group that used images of bloody oranges to call for a boycott of Israeli products. Jewish leaders in Bremen, in northwestern Germany, as well as the interfaith German-Israel Society, Christian-Jewish Society and Friends of Israel in Bremen, are proposing to work with local mainstream political and religious leaders to take a stand against the Bremen Peace Forum and its political agenda.

Study Points to Big Church-State Shift

A new study reveals that the Bush administration is succeeding beyond the most optimistic projections of supporters -- and the most pessimistic fears of critics -- in funneling government social service dollars to religious groups, despite the refusal of Congress to pass most of its faith-based initiative.

Last week the Roundtable on Religion and Social Welfare Policy issued an exhaustive report indicated that religious groups "are now involved in government-encouraged activities ranging from building strip malls for economic improvement to promoting child car seats."

Return to Founding Ideals Poses Challenge

The major overall challenge we face today is that of returning to the ideals of a democratic, pluralistic Jewish State that found their expression in the noble words of Israel's Declaration of Independence.
