ZOA prevails in wrongful termination suit

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge in Beverly Hills cleared the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) of all claims brought against it by a former employee alleging wrongful termination as well as pregnancy and sex discrimination.

Prodded by Danon, U.S. lawyers set to sue Goldstone

A group of American Jewish lawyers is set to file a civil lawsuit against Richard Goldstone initiated by Israeli lawmaker Danny Danon. The class action suit against the author of the Goldstone Report, a United Nations document about Israel's conduct during the monthlong Gaza war in the winter of 2008-09, is set to be filed next week in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan by attorney Steve Goldberg, according to a statement issued Wednesday from Danon's office.

School’s suit over Kohl’s contest is tossed

A lawsuit filed by a Florida school against two Jewish day schools in the state over a national online contest sponsored by Kohl's was dismissed. A judge in Broward County, Fla., dismissed the suit on March 3, saying that the owners of the Abi's Place school for disabled children could not prove that it had an official deal with the Hebrew Academy Community School and Rohr Bais Chaya Academy to help Abi's win votes.

American rabbi sues Australian synagogue

An American-born Orthodox rabbi is suing the board of an Australian synagogue for wrongful dismissal. Rabbi Yossi Engel, a Brooklyn, N.Y., native who served at the Adelaide Hebrew Congregation for seven years until his contract ended in 2006, is claiming more than $600,000 in compensation. Engel believes his termination was a breach of halachah, or Jewish law, which he says guarantees life tenure for rabbis.

Steve Rosen, the former AIPAC foreign policy chief charged with receiving classified information, is suing his former employer for defamation, JTA has learned.
