Posen Foundation launching new Jewish studies fellowships

The Posen Foundation will launch a fellowship for six Jewish studies scholars and two fiction writers. The international fellowship will aim to support emerging Jewish academics and authors while they embark on their studies, according to Advisory Committee chair David Biale. Each of the fellows will receive a total of $40,000 over the two years of the fellowship.

Jewish studies programs at American colleges keep growing, but the enrollment curve of Jewish students in such programs remains largely flat or is drooping. The explanation for this seeming paradox is that more and more non-Jews are signing up and, to continue this trend, universities must reach out to other ethnic and religious groups, professor Jody Myers said.
