Ever since Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards, announced that her breast cancer had recurred and was treatable, but not curable, breast cancer organizations have been fielding questions from women -- both from cancer patients and from women worried that if breast cancer does strike, it might also hit them in its most severe form.
Shortly after Janet Halbert completed treatment for breast cancer in 2005, a friend was diagnosed with the disease. The friend asked Halbert if she had any tips for easing the chemotherapy experience. "I told her I had some products and some ideas and things that might be helpful," Halbert said.
I have finished my eight rounds of chemotherapy. I feel like someone coming to the end of a year of mourning, about to surrender the status of "mourner" and return to face the world without a label to describe my continuing internal struggle.
