Last night I was thrilled to attend a private performance of the electro-pop artist Cellars, pictured above.  Her real name is Alle Norton, she's got bundles of talent, and she gave a neat performance for a lucky crowd at the Soho House.  Her album Phases is available now.  I particularly like her song "Do You Miss Me?" which is playing right now from my personal collection.  The Soho House is a private club on Sunset Boulevard, super swanky, with amazing views of Los Angeles looking out from the club's top floor location.

  • Elizabeth Cook

Yesterday I was invited to a rare Los Angeles performance by Nashville musician Elizabeth Cook at Hotel Cafe, a cozy and friendly spot in Hollywood.  Elizabeth has a strong voice and most appealing stage presence, but her gritty lyrics reveal a woman who has been through the fire and survived.  She played songs from her new album, Exodus of Venus, which comes out soon.  Most enjoyable!

Yesterday I went on the new Metro Expo Line in Santa Monica, it's great, they did a nice job sprucing up the neighborhood with nicely designed stations, new parks and artwork, etc.  Good job!

I recently tried Birchbox and found it was very pleasant, for $10 a month they ship you a cool collection of five makeup, hair products, or other beauty supply samples each month.  It's fun to look forward to, and you can cancel at any time; and also order more of something you like on their large, well-organized site.  Visit Birchbox.com for more information or to try it out.

I recently enjoyed The Curious Palate, a casual but delicious restaurant tucked away near the recently opened ArcLight Cinema on the 3rd level of Santa Monica Place.  Excellent food, lovingly prepared, and not usually crowded, with a friendly staff who obviously really cares about presenting delicious, fresh tasting food.

  • Almost Interesting

I just finished David Spade's book Almost Interesting and was pleasantly surprised -- he tells of his struggle to escape an unfortunate childhood and starting out in comedy, including the ups and downs of fame.  He tells about his insecurities while writing comedy, getting attacked by his assistant and other pitfalls of making it.  A most enjoyable read!

  • Brooklyn Film

Yesterday I saw the film Brooklyn, what a sweet, moving film about an Irish immigrant!  Very enjoyable, almost an old-fashioned feel to the film.

If you are heading out to the Staples Center for a game soon, check out the new Draft Kings Fantasy Sports Bar and Lounge.  They have a nice menu and environment, and it's a comfy place to wait for the game to start!
