Lia Mandelbaum is known for her advocacy, passion, creativity, and empathy, and is fiercely driven to make a difference.  She is especially passionate about impacting our criminal justice and education system, interfaith relations, and the LGBTQ movement.  She recently graduated with a Master's in Social Work (MSW) from Cal State Los Angeles, where she also received a Bachelor's in Social Work (BSW).

The performing arts have played a big role in her work experience as a vehicle for healing, building community and creating meaningful public dialogue. In 2015, she co-curated an art installation that was used as an interactive extension of the play The Whipping Man for the Pasadena Playhouse. From 2011-2013, she helped produce various community-building events for Craig ‘N Co. and the Sinai Temple community, and currently volunteers for the Pico Union Project.  Starting in 2008, she worked in development for Beit T’Shuvah, and also starred in and coordinated national tours for their original musical, Freedom Song.

Lia received training in dealing with advocacy and relationship building through her fellowships with Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice, and NewGround: A Muslim-Jewish Partnership for Change.  She was selected as a participant of the Future50, created in partnership between the Interreligious Council of Southern California and USC’s Center for Religion and Civic Culture. Significant volunteer experiences include being an active member of JQ International, which is an LGBTQ Jewish movement, and also as a part of the leadership for Compassion Games International.
