Rosner’s Torah-Talk: Parashat Re’eh with Rabbi Bradley Shavit Artson

Rabbi Bradley Shavit Artson

Our special guest today is Rabbi Bradley Shavit Artson, Dean of the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies at American Jewish University in Los Angeles. Rabbi Artson, who was ordained by the Jewish Theological seminary and who received his PhD in theology from the Hebrew Union College, also serves as the University's Vice President and as a faculty member of the Wexner Heritage Foundation. Prior to his position at the Ziegler school, Artson served as the Rabbi of Congregation Eilat in Mission Viejo, which grew under his tenure from about 200 families to over 600. He has written seven books and over 180 published articles.

In this Week's Torah Portion- Parashat Re'eh (Deuteronomy 11:26-16:17) - Moses continues speaking to the people of Israel right before he passes away and before they cross the Jordan River and enter the Promised Land. Moses asks them to recite certain blessings and curses on Mount Grizzim and Mount Ebal after they enter Israel. He demands that they destroy all remnants of idolatry from the Promised Land. He asks them to choose a city which will host the Holy Temple, and they are forbidden from offering sacrifices anywhere else. The Parasha also discusses false prophets, kashrut, the sabbatical year, and charity.
