Tonight, it presents a staged reading of Jeff Baron’s “Visiting Mr. Green,” about the evolving relationship between a retired dry cleaner and a young executive. Our suggested mitzvah of the week: Attend a special benefit party at Overtones Gallery. Artist Margi Scharff has created road collages of her travels to places like China, Laos, Thailand and India. In the course of her most recent journey, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer, and has been receiving treatment and working on her art in India ever since. Overtones last exhibited Scharff’s works in May 2005. Today they present her works for viewing and purchase, with 100 percent of the proceeds going directly to Scharff to help with her mounting medical bills. Those unable to attend today may also make appointments to view Scharff’s pieces at another time.

You have to see it to truly get it. “Water Colors” is a dance performance, a group painting and “a performance dialogue about tradition, freedom, and the role of the artist in fostering change.” The piece takes place at the Skirball’s Taper Courtyard, around the reflecting pool. It features Japanese movement artists Eiko and Koma and the Phnom Penh-based Reyum Painting Collective. The score is by Cambodian-born ethnomusicologist Sam-Ang Sam.

The show ain’t over till the Jewish lady sings. Tonight, Repertory Opera Company presents “Lucia Di Lammermoor.” The work by Donizetti is based on the tragic Sir Walter Scott story, “The Bride of Lammermoor,” about a woman promised by her brother to one man, while her true love is her brother’s sworn enemy. In the title role of Lucia will be soprano Myriam Zekaria.

Loveable Kevin Pollack shows up for a special screening of “The Usual Suspects,” as part of the Aero Theatre’s “Lasting Impressions” series featuring screenings and conversations with moviemakers. Pollack costarred in “Suspects” with Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne, Benicio Del Toro and Stephen Baldwin. He’ll stick around for a discussion afterward with host Ed Crasnick.

Head north to get your next Jewish film fest fix. On the Ventura County Film Festival agenda this year are screenings of four films with discussions to follow — perfect for those who haven’t yet caught these works on the big screen. Tonight’s opening film is “Everything Is Illuminated,” based on the Jonathan Safran Foer novel. This weekend’s films are “Go for Zucker,” “A Cantor’s Tale” and “Live and Become.”

Doogie Howser takes a serious turn in the Geffen Theater’s current production, as actor Neil Patrick Harris (known forever to us as “The Doog”), performs in the Arthur Miller drama, “All My Sons.” Written in 1947, the play centers on the theme of social responsibility, and remains topical today. Len Cariou and Laurie Metcalf also star.
