Family foundations pave new philanthropic path

(Page 2 - Previous Page)

Former President Bill Clinton is a case in point. There was every chance that his legacy would be mired in the Lewinsky affair. Instead he recreated himself as an uberphilanthropist and he is more popular than ever -- he has rock-star status. All of this is bound have an impact on today's young Jews of wealth.

I think federations play a critical role in Jewish life in America. They are worthy of our support. As to whether they grow, that decision lies entirely in their hands. It will take vision and some hard decisions about what businesses they are in and what businesses they should no longer be in. To the extent that they are willing to make those changes and take those risks we should stand behind them and help ensure that they succeed.
