As seen on CNN.
FB Message Date, November 16, 2008:
“hey superstar!
did you see yourself on CNN? major face time time for you leading the chant….rock on!”
I was holding a sign that I’d made and marched the streets with since the day after Prop 8 rocked LA.
It read: Since My Rights Just got Shat Upon, My Sign Looks Like Crap.
I’d just turned 25 on November 8th. I’d marched and helped lead so many marches my body was shutting down. I was literally feeling like I was catching pneumonia. I’d been faced with police in Riot Gear and had to help tell people to sit down in the streets of Westwood. I marched and marched and marched and marched…
This summer 2011, I was invited to lead another big act of Consciousness, this time in Jerusalem. This time in full silence at the Israeli Presidential Conference, in solidarity with a project called Here’s My Chance (Israel Conversation Project). I was so honored to be asked to start off the Conscious Mob by my friend, David Gloss, the enthusiastic and passionate fellow whom I’d met in root to Jerusalem while boarding the connecting flight in Philadelphia. Below is the video:
(Here’s My Chance rallied over 50 people to participate in the launch of The Israel Conversation Project (ICP) at the Israeli Presidential Conference 2011 #tomorrow2011 in a flashmob of consciousness #flashtomorrow. Our goal was to use such a unique event to raise awareness around the issues important to today’s young leaders.)
I Pledged to Support LGBTQ Human Rights, which I guess I’d always been doing. But with teen suicide more and more rampant, it was time to really take a stance.
This past week, DADT was finally abolished, but DOMA is still in tact; and if you ask my humble opinion, both of these D policies equal no more to me than a royal F. HUGE Fails.
So, as we enter into a new year, I hope that I get to march less, lead Mobs of Consciousness less… have to fight bigotry and hatred less. But, just in case, I’ve got a good shitty sign in the wait.
May we all learn to be a light unto another.
May we all dare to pledge to be Ourselves, no matter what, and for matters of helping others break through to their Core Essence.
May we all find Peace and Solidarity.
Shana Tova.
May we ALL be written in the Book of Life.
