A campus team had concluded that Barnette's complaint was "too serious to be resolved through informal dispute resolution" and had recommended a formal investigation.
The charge of anti-Semitism is apparently a first at CSUN; at least the first that Jeanette Mann, special assistant to the president for equity and diversity, has seen in her 24 years on campus. They are, as well, the latest public relations flap at a university that recently has been visited by scandal, including a basketball coach's arrest on drug-related charges in late 1998.
