The Reappearing Jew




"Are you really so optimistic about the Jewish future?" my friend, the rabbi, asked me. Yes I am, but more importantly, finally I am not alone.

The rabbi and I were among more than 400 people -- most of them just garden-variety Jews-on-the-Street -- who attended last weekend's historic two-day conference, entitled "The Reappearing American Jew: Identity and Continuity," sponsored by Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles and the University of Southern California's Institute for the Study of Jews in the West.
