Jacqueline Pearlson, Jewish Community Leader, 85
Jacqueline Ina Pearlson, born in Los Angeles on May 23, 1924, passed away on April 27, 2010.
Pearlson was the beloved wife of departed husband Herbert for 43 years; cherished mother of Nina Leung, Paul and Kathy Pearlson, Gary Pearlson, Vicki Pearlson and Scott Willis; devoted and loving grandmother of Bryan, Michael and Diane. She valued family above all else and loved caring for them. Her family and friends will always love her and she will be greatly missed.
She was also dedicated to helping others. She started her work in the community by going door-to-door with her mother raising money for United Way. She received her first continuous service award from the United Jewish Welfare Fund in 1958 and, after holding numerous leadership positions, was named the Women’s Division Chairwoman in 1976. She served as an advocate and fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association from 1974 through 1993, chairing their Premiere Committee in 1980 and 1981. She was treasurer of the Jewish Community Foundation in 1992 and secretary in 1994. She was honored by Jewish Family Service in 1995 with an outstanding volunteer achievement award and served as president from 1996 through 1998. She received recognition for her community leadership from the City of Los Angeles in 1984 and 1998. She served for many years on the board of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion School of Jewish Communal Service. She received the United Jewish Fund Women’s Campaign Lion of Judah Ruby Award in 2004 and continued her involvement in these organizations until her death. Her devotion to the Jewish community will always be remembered and her work will be carried on by the many for whom she served as a mentor and friend.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday May 2, at Hillside Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Pearlson Memorial Fund of Jewish Family Service, 3580 Wilshire Blvd., #700, Los Angeles, CA 90010.
