  1. What is Los Angeles Jewish Publications, Inc., Inc.? Los Angeles Jewish Publications, Inc., Inc. (LAJP) raises awareness about local and international Jewish issues and culture. The Jewish Journal, the flagship publication of LAJP, serves as an open forum and virtual meeting place for a Jewish population of 600,000. Los Angeles Jewish Publications, Inc., Inc. is supported wholly through advertising and subscriptions. It is not affiliated with any organization, ideology or movement. In a greater effort to serve more community members, Los Angeles Jewish Publications, Inc., Inc. has diversified its outreach by creating various supplements custom-tailored for specific communities. This includes Arts in L.A., which focuses on the local arts scene. Supplements: In efforts to continue connecting the Los Angeles Jewish community, L.A. Jewish Publications, Inc., produces several independent magazines that pick up where The Jewish Journal leaves off: Jewish Family | a four-color glossy magazine targeted to specific areas of Southern California via direct mail.   2. What is The Jewish Journal? The Jewish Journal is a community non-profit weekly serving the Jewish community of Greater Los Angeles. Founded in 1985, The Jewish Journal is a national award-winning independent non-profit newspaper whose mission is to serve the greater Los Angeles Jewish community through the practice of quality journalism. The Jewish Journal received more Southern California Journalism Award nominations in 2005 than any newspaper of its size. Our Goal | To facilitate a connection for Jewish households in the area. How We Achieve It | The Jewish Journal maintains a controlled distribution to more than 700 locations spreading from the South Bay to Pasadena, and as far north as Santa Barbara. Each week, coffeehouses, schools, synagogues, banks, hospitals, restaurants, markets, libraries, bookstores and talent agencies are supplied with stacks of our latest issue to be given away for free.   7. How do I place an item in your calendar? You can do it on-line with our free, self-serve Jewish community calendar—it’s the largest in L.A. Go to www.jewishjournal.com/calendar.   8. I submitted a calendar listing and it hasn’t appeared. What’s going on? Calendar items are listed for free on a space-available basis. They generally only run the week before the event being listed.

Family members in our obituaries are only survivors of the deceased and obituaries will be edited for space. We do not charge for obituary listings. Due to the high volume of submissions, it may take up to 2-3 weeks for a response. The Jewish Journal does not print poetry or fiction.
  15. How do I get back issues or clips of past articles? The best way is to search our archive.
  16. Are you part of the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles? No. The Jewish Journal was founded in 1986 by lay leaders of the Jewish community to serve as an independent community newspaper.

Calendar listings should be submitted at least three weeks in advance. Be sure to require all relevant event information, including phone numbers. Keep in mind, The Jewish Journal receives many calendar listings and, due to space limitations, cannot list them all.

Letters should be no more than 200 words and must require a valid name, mailing address and phone number. Letters sent via e-mail must not contain attachments. Pseudonyms and initials will not be used, but names will be withheld on request. We reserve the right to edit all letters.

The Jewish Journal will publish obituary notices free of charge. Please send a card, letter or an email in accordance with the name, age and survivors of the deceased.

The Jewish Journal welcomes unsolicited manuscripts. Response time may take between 4-6 weeks due to the volume of submissions we receive. Submissions must require a name, mailing address and phone number. All e-mail submissions should be sent in the body of the message; unsolicited e-mail containing attachments will be deleted. The Jewish Journal rarely prints articles of more than 1,200 words. Manuscripts and other materials sent via standard mail should require a self-addressed, stamped envelope in order to be returned.
