Hi. I'm Julie Bien.

I'm a writing, blogging, coffee-drinking machine.

I also have a thing for sustainability, organic gardening, cooking, and easy crafting. I'm like Martha Stewart on a budget (and without having spent time in the slammer.)

Years of student poverty, boredom, and a lot of time spent working on an organic farm have given me vast knowledge of the DIY world.
I'm also stubborn, and gosh darn it, I won't pay $7 for a jar of almond butter if I can make it myself  in one step with a free bag of almonds that my grandma bought in bulk. And yes, I will put the finished product in a recycled mason jar.

Did I mention I wear black, plastic-rimmed geek glasses and listen to obscure music?

Now THAT should make me a reliable DIY source.

What follows will be a mishmash of crafts, clothing reconstruction, organic gardening tips,  how-tos for homemade stuff that's expensive when not made at home, cheap/easy recipes, canning instructions and the occassional photo of a basset hound running.

Let's go!
