Top 5 Things Americans Can Be Thankful For

Posted by Misha Henckel

1. The Occupy Movement – it’s about time we got the courage to stand up to the vicious, greedy and destructive elements of our society.

2. Facebook, You Tube, Twitter and digital technology – we get to express ourselves, freely. How awesome is that!

3. Reality TV – the Real Housewives, the Kardashians et al. It’s important to get a good look at what you never want to be.

4. President Obama – the dude has had to deal with the impossible. I dare anyone else to take the job and do it better.

5. You’re an American – when last I checked, for all our problems, this was still the most amazing country in the world. Here you’re free to become everything you want to be.

Be grateful that you get to be you. Breathe, smile and reach out to someone.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Sadly, I am not thankful for President Obama. Those of us fighting for immigrants rights have been betrayed by Obama who pays lip service to helping us, but detains and deports far more immigrants per year than his predecessor.

Obama has turned out to be an enforcement only President guilty of gross human rights violations. Women are routinely raped in immigration detention (PBS Frontline - Lost in Detention) and deaths do to medical neglect are on the rise.

What’s the President’s current stance? He will “let ICE police itself”. ICE conducted a review of its detention center operations and gave itself pretty good grades.

The President has also declared that the Department of Homeland Security will conduct thorough reviews of all deportation cases. Would YOU put your fate in the hands of the DHS?

Those of us who study the issue, especially those of us who voted for this President, are disappointed, dismayed, and disgusted.
