SHINanigans!

The letter shin is a big one this week: It is Shabbat Shira (vrha) – the Shabbat of Song, it is the month of Shevat (,ca) and it is the portion of B'Shalach. The Israelites cross the Sea of Reeds in this portion and, in an outpouring of gratitude, they sing a song, known is Hebrew as a shir, to God. Next week, on Tu B'Shevat (Jan. 24-25 this year), we show our gratitude to God's gorgeous world by planting trees. And when you plant that tree, don't forget to sing.

Go Plant Trees for Tu B'Shevat!

A Little Riddle

It doesn't need rain,

Or sun in the morn,

It grows another branch

When a child is born!

What kind of tree is it?

An Odd Fruit

Which of these fruits do not grow on a tree? (Hint: There are three.)

Mango

Coconut

Pineapple

Dates

Strawberries

Breadfruit

Bananas
