As predicted, Joe and Teresa Giudice from The Real Housewives of New Jersey have pled guilty to fraud charges. I for one am glad this part of the ordeal is over and I hope people can stop speculating and wishing harm on this family. The government has done what it needed to do, and we can move on. I am sure it is a relief to this family this day finally arrived and they can move forward and plan for their children.
They still need to be sentenced of course, and that is scheduled for July 8th. They have four months to focus on preparing their children for the painful fact that one or both of them may have to go to jail. It is sad and while a dozen people will have a dozen opinions, for the sake of their young children I personally hope their sentences are not overlapping and perhaps Teresa can avoid serving time all together.
Teresa admitted guilt, as did Joe, and I support their getting whatever sentence the court deems appropriate punishment. That said, if there were a way for them to serve time without the kids having to be placed in the care of someone other than their parents, I want that for these children. I would want that for all children the age these kids are. Justice can be served and at the same time the children can be respected.
Following the court appearance, Teresa told Us Weekly:
"Today, I took responsibility for a series of mistakes I made several years ago. I have said throughout that I respect the legal process and thus I intend to address the court directly at sentencing. I will describe the choices I made, continue to take responsibility for my decisions, and express my remorse to Judge Salas and the public. I am heartbroken that this is affecting my family, especially my four young daughters, who mean more to me than anything in the world. Beyond this, I do not intend to speak specifically about the case outside of court, at the recommendation of my attorney and out of deference to the government and our legal system."
The bigger story here is the fate of the Giudice daughters, Gia, 13, Gabriella, 11, Milania, 9, and Audriana, 5. These are lovely children, we have watched grow up, and I am keeping them in my prayers. I place no blame, as that is not my job. In fact, unless you are the judge in this case, it is not your job either. Let’s keep a good thought for the children because this is about more than just Teresa and Joe.
The amount of hate and bad wishes being hurled at Teresa and Joe is sad, but this is America and people can say what they want. Let’s just please take a moment to think about these beautiful girls as it would appear nobody thought about them enough for this to be what has happened. In terms of Tre and Juicy, think about who we are dealing with and blame carefully. There is a leader and a follower.
To Teresa, I shall keep a good thought for you and hope the next few months allow you the time needed to best plan for the wellbeing of your children. To the lovely Gia, Gabriella, Milania, and Audriana, who will grow up to read all that was said about their parents, know you have endless support and love. We pray people will be fair and keep it real.
