Bethenny Frankel: Drowning in Lies While “Lost” at Sea

Posted by Ilana Angel

Tim Russell

I used to think Bethenny Frankel was funny.  She was obnoxious and over the top, but had enough truly funny moments on the first season of the Real Housewives of New York that I was able to overlook the annoying parts of her.  Over the past three years however, I have lost respect for her.

Lost respect may not be the right term, as I never really had any respect for her.  Even though I did not like her, I could applaud her success, as it was impressive.  Well it was impressive, until we learned more about her and discovered nothing Bethenny says comes from a place of truth.

I have written about her a lot.  It annoys me that so many young women idolize her, and buy her crap products. She is not a role model. She is a child of wealth and privilege, who has a crazy sense of entitlement, no respect for the legacy of her father, and a pathological need to lie and be famous.

Last week when Bethenny told her story of being “lost at sea”, I knew it was a joke.  The story made no sense.  Without any deep research, I have discovered her claims were more far-fetched than I could have imagined. With a little reading, and one phone call, I managed to unravel her story.

Tim Russell, the man who was called out to Bethenny’s boat, called me and we talked about it.  He read a blog I wrote about Bethenny’s story and he got in touch to help set the record straight.  We spoke yesterday and he was forthcoming, honest and had no agenda, other than to tell the truth.

Mr. Russell has worked on the water for 40 years.  He possesses an easy and open personality, and an awesome accent.  His wife is a schoolteacher, and they are real people who work hard to make a living. They are authentic and I feel bad for him that he is caught up in this mess.

It’s fascinating that all of her claims are easily disputed because it’s all public record.  That there is not a massive outcry from her fans demanding to know why she has likely misled them is interesting.  Stop drinking the Kool-Aid!  It is laced with Sodium Benzoate.

Bethenny claims they were lost at sea with no GPS, but when the therapist called Tim to help, he told them his exact coordinates, which he read off of the GPS system.  They did call the Coast Guard, and the USCG suggested he call a tow company because there was no danger.

The Coast Guard confirmed the GPS was working and the boat was not in distress, so they suggested they call a tow company as there was no need for them to assist.  It was Bethenny’s therapist who called Mr. Russell, not the USCG.  It was 5:00 am when he got the call.

Mr. Russell explained that his rate was $250 an hour, which is his standard, offseason, nighttime rate and since it was still dark, the nighttime rate applied.  When he realized the boat was fine, he explained they did not need him and could come in on their own as the boat was fully functioning.

The therapist insisted they needed help, and said they would pay him what he wanted.  Mr. Russell thought it was bizarre, and did not know what was going on, but did not want to ignore the call incase there was an issue so he went out to get them.  His wife went along and they headed out.

When Tim got there, he saw that the boat was fine.  There were 9 people on the boat.  Bethenny, Jason, the therapist, and a Bravo film crew of 6.  They did not need a tow as the boat was fine.  They simply followed Tim and his wife back to the shore with no towing and a functioning GPS.

There was no reason for help to be called.  The Coast Guard did not assist, as there was nothing for them to do.  Tim went out because he respects the water, and was unsure of the problem.  Bethenny wasted everyone’s time, mocked the USCG, and belittled Tim Russell.

Bethenny came back to shore in the same boat she went out on.  The only way they could have gotten lost would have been captain error, but the therapist has been sailing for 30 years and can not only use the GPS, but can read charts, so there is no way they were lost.  If it it was all not faked, it was something short of “reality.”

Bethenny claims says she was out in sea for 21 hours, but does not mention it’s because they sat around for hours killing time, to help their story.  Bethenny says Jason was going to cook, but they only brought beans.  Bethenny has dug a hole she will never get out of.

Everything is documented, including the Coast Guard telling them to call a tow company.  In fact, Tim was not even the first company called.  Another boat refused to go get them, as there was no emergency. Tim went because he is a decent guy and wanted to make sure everyone was okay.

Tim was annoyed they wasted his time, and when they got back to shore, he saw it was a joke.  Bethenny got out of the boat and kissed the dock, but only after the crew got out of the boat to get the shot.  It was faked for her reality show.  None of it was real and everyone was fine.

Bethenny put this man’s safety, and professional reputation on the line.  When they started filming, Tim did not know what was going on.  The therapist told him Bethenny was a television star and just sold her company for $120 million dollars.  He was annoyed Tim did not know.

When I asked Tim about the tip stories in the press, he let me know he was not a waitress and did not work for tips.  He never received a tip, neither did the boat owner.  Bethenny told Ellen she tipped him $2800 dollars.  Not true.  Furthermore, Tim never went to the press to complain.

When talking to a reporter, he was trying to make the point that Bethenny was not honest.  He said if someone truly thought they could die, and were a millionaire, wouldn’t they say thank you, or publically acknowledge who saved her?  Wouldn’t she give a tip?

He felt it was all for show when she went on Ellen and started to talk about him. She made it look like he complained about a tip, when really she put him and his livelihood in jeopardy by using him for her fake reality.  He was kind, but made to look like a putz.

I asked Tim if he had heard Bethenny said she would sleep with him as a tip.  He let me know he would rather be shipwrecked.  This is a hardworking man who has made his living on the ocean for 40 years.  His father and grandfather were both maritime men.

In my opinion, Bethenny has a tenuous relationship to the truth.  She has made claims about her childhood, her parents, her career, her love life, her marriage, and her little boat trip.  She has built a house of half-truths and it’s all going to come crashing down.  It’s a shame she has to hurt innocent people like Tim along the way.

Tim Russell is a sweet man and I liked him.  He and his wife are good people and I hope the cloud Bethenny has placed over them passes quickly.  In the end he will have the last laugh because her story will be held up to scrutiny, he’ll have a good story, and Bethenny will lose in the end.

To be clear, Tim is not some some poor sap who got screwed over by the Bethenny machine.  He’s just a guy, who did his job, and never gave it a second thought.  When she went to the press and distorted the facts of what happened, he wanted to set the record straight.

Having spoken to him, this is my two cents on the story, and he may not like my perspective either.  In the end he was there and I have told him if he wants to write the story in his own words, I will post it.  The bottom line is that no matter who tells the story, Bethenny’s version is dubious.

Bethenny has built an empire on hyperbole.  The truth is fragile, and when you don’t attend to it, it shatters. It’s just a matter of time, and while we wait to see what happens, I will continue to call her out, pass on the Kool-Aid, and give a voice to those who are keeping it real.

WOW! Great job Ilana. What a FRAUD Bethenny is. I knew the story sounded FAKE. Thank you for writing this and EXPOSING her.

Comment by Tara on 10/05/11 at 11:35 pm

Why is Jewish Journal even covering her? She doesn’t consider herself Jewish and had her child baptized..  and for the record, I’m glad she’s exposed smile.

Comment by ilene on 10/06/11 at 7:15 am

Bethenny is a liar!!! It is plain and simple, that her “empire” is born on lies.  Now, she has the audacity to lie about a man who her therapist called to help her? Unbelieveable!  Bethenny is a disgusting human being for lying about that man.

Her fans drink the benzene enriched products…sodium benzoate + lime (vitamin C) = benzene.

Hey! Maybe there is one good by-product if we need to fill-up we only have to find some Bethenny addicts and transfuse there blood to our cars!  The new drill drill drill! Possibly Bethenny has solved an oil crisis as well even though oil is trending down-ward at the moment!

Fabulous reporting Ilana!  Love it!

Remember people blogs are opinions, but now Bethenny is exposed! Love it!

Comment by Sarah on 10/06/11 at 7:26 am

@ Tara:  Thanks. It’s just my two cents.
@ Ilene:  This is a blog about reality television.
@ Sarah: You are hilarious.

Comment by Ilana Angel on 10/06/11 at 7:54 am

Isn’t reality tv set up for entertainment?  Today’s blog seems to be more about some sort of personal ax to grind about Bethanny than really exposing anything on her.  Your source also seemed to be someone who wasn’t satisfied with his compensation & found a way to trash her.

Comment by LA on 10/06/11 at 8:09 am

Illana - Just like the others, I have been a fan of Bethenny’s since the first year of NYC Housewives.  I enjoyed her humor and felt for her when her and Jill’s friendship fell apart. Having said that I have been entertained by your blogs with your “take” of Bethenny.  I’ve laughed and just thought well everyone has the right to their opinion.  But when facts are presented like these it makes me question what the heck I was thinking!  lol

Comment by Gracie on 10/06/11 at 8:09 am

Wow..what did Bethenny ever personally do to you? You seem to have a lot of built-up contempt for her. You completely sensationalized this event. Bad journalism. Get a life!

Comment by Eli on 10/06/11 at 8:19 am

@ LA: I have no ax to grind.  This is a blog about reality television, and it’s just my two cents on a reality television star.

@ Gracie: It’s just opinion doll, I’m not trying to change anyone’s mind about Bethenny.

@  Eli:  it’s a blog about reality television, not Time magazine.

there is ABSOLUTELY ‘NO’ difference between this and any other HATE blog for shame. this makes your 35th i hate bethenny blog lynnchicago would be proud at your achievement. (atleast lynn posts her detractors shame you don’t) but i guess pointing that out makes me an antisemite huh ilana

Comment by yawn on 10/06/11 at 9:14 am

Wow—way to report ONE SIDE of the story.  You’ve cited one source, one guy, without bothering to get any other input.  You’ve had a thing going against Bethenny for quite a long time, and your lopsided “reporting” is far worse than anything Bethenny or he producers might cook up for entertainment purposes.  At least they’re not pretending to be fair and impartial.  And, not for nothing, but aren’t you good friends with Jill Zarin?  Right.  Before you start calling the kettle black, you might want to look in a mirror and consider your own rather inky reflection.

Comment by Patricia Butler on 10/06/11 at 9:52 am

Oh don’t worry… you’re not changing my opinion of Bethenny…she is!  smile

Comment by Gracie on 10/06/11 at 10:13 am

Thank-you IIlana! Wow-you would have thought they would have learned after the incident trying to use DC cops for tape purposes.-How DARE they call the US Coast Guard for a publicity stunt on a busy summer weekend.
Just to rephrase-there was no emergency-it was all fake, including Bethenny’s Twitter messages, (she USED her fans there!).fake fake fake, they knew they were going for more than a three hour tour yet pretended for the camera that they were stranded at sea.
I almost wish that this all came out AFTER we all got to see the FAKE FAKE FAKE episode.

Comment by Housewifehater on 10/06/11 at 10:18 am

Yawn,

Are you freaking kidding me? Lynn Hudson does not under any circumstances write anything critical about Bethenny.  Further she states and has stated today on Twitter she doesn’t post or read other blogs which is a flat lie by Lynn as Stoopidhousewife, Reality Tea and Ilana… Please!

Lynn attacks anyone that posts against her or Bethenny. She bans them from her site, so Yawn either you are Lynn or you need an education why don’t you ask several people banned from her site….I can supply the names of several people and they posted before. It is either you agree with Lynn or face attack on Bethenny because her site lives and breathes Jill. Jill isn’t even a housewife anymore and she mentioned her several times today.  Please! Lynn = yawn plain and simple or one of her nutty followers.

This is a blog…a blog is ONLY opinion. Ilana has said it on every Bethenny article several times, but again Lynn comes and makes her statements. Whatever.

Who has a camera crew with them…Why did she tweet about it immediately? Why did she LIE about the Coast Guard and Even Ellen proved it was false?  Why isn’t Bethenny’s talk show getting support from advertisers? Oh yes dear Yawn it isn’t producers it is the advertisers and demographics that don’t like her style. a 30 min or 1 hr show needs advertisers and other than Beam no one seems to want to support it and daytime TV cannot have alcoholic products company backing it as a sponsor for their alcohol products on network TV during the day. Some exceptions for beer, but not spirits.

Frankly, Bethenny’s own acts are the ones that are making some people see the light. I think it is becoming patently obvious that this is true.

Sodium Benzoate + Lime = the Darwin Effect…please all Bethenny fans continue to drink the SGM we need some weeding out of the shallow gene pool!

Comment by Sarah on 10/06/11 at 11:41 am

Great article Ilana!  Unfortunately, Bethenny’s kool-aid drinkers are already addicted to her lies, exaggerations, embellishments, etc. You can’t win! I do believe however, that she has exhausted the American population of women.  I believe her new group of kool-aid drinkers reside in Canada, Britain and Australia.  I’m sure she will tap that market out and try to get her grubby, greedy hands on every dime she can. I think it’s wasted energy to convince others what a despicable person she truly is.  It’s like trying to explain reason to die hard liberals. Some people don’t want to understand fact.  They don’t want to be wrong. Her sick fans have already concluded that she is their “God” and they can’t see the facts.

She really is a big loser.  I mean if I was the third richest woman on Forbes’ list, I would be embarrassed and humiliated to ask my fans to buy my products so that a percentage of the proceeds can go toward that cause.  Why not just give privately to that cause?  This is a difficult economy for many and this shameless, arrogant, pig of a woman is one of the most greedy and selfish of them.

For God sakes people, she is just a dysfunctional, reality star with a highly aggressive, workaholic nature who is only interested in money and power.  It is very obvious.  She doesn’t bring any “genius” to the table. She is not any better than the Goldman Sachs people. And, like I always say, money does not make you a good person, period. If you are miserable and nasty, lack integrity, have very little class with very little morals and values, it doesn’t matter how rich you are, you are still a soulless, cold individual inside.

Even if this man, Tim Russell, did receive compensation for his services, Bethenny still created a lie.  Why do that to your fans?  She does that because she is extremely condescending and has no real respect for anyone who idolizes her. She apparently has a full sense of entitlement, and prays on the gullible, naive, believing victims that are overflowing with support.  Well, it’s their business and very unfortunate for them…at least some people are individuals, not herd followers, and think for themselves.

Comment by Alison on 10/06/11 at 11:57 am

Why is it that anyone who offers a differing opinion from the blogger or her supporters, or who takes exception with one-sided “journalism” has to be “drinking the Kook-aid” or mindlessly worshipping someone?  If that’s the case, then obviously the same thing could be said about those who are getting so militant about supporting what this blogger writes regardless of the fact that she’s only presenting a single side of the story from a single viewpoint?  I don’t know what Bethenny or Bravo did or didn’t do, but that’s the point—I don’t know, because—just like your blogger—I didn’t ask.  So maybe take the nastiness down a couple of notches.  Just because I don’t agree with the way this particular blogger chooses to present her own personal, and very biased, opinion as though it were some well-researched, well-rounded, hard-hitting journalism doesn’t mean that I’m a disciple of the person she’s continually bashing.

Comment by Patricia Butler on 10/06/11 at 12:48 pm

thanks god someone sees her real pitch black color. She is so fake very loud and has no class , is always argumentative. She does everything to belittle other with the sarcastic remark which I find it quite low .I think people who are her fans are ones who has low self esteem and less education therefore they fall into her pretentious.

Comment by kara on 10/06/11 at 2:10 pm

Ugh, not cool to screw around with emergency services for a story line on a REALITY tv show. I long for reality TV like it was when the Real World started way back when.

For the record, I have posted on Lynn’s site that I hate Bethenny and didn’t get slammed.  Some people even agreed with my comments and nothing bad happened.  Lynn didn’t fly out of my computer on a broomstick.

Any comment I could make on this would just seem too easy.

@ yawn:  Hi Lynn.  Thanks for stopping by.

@ Patricia:  Of course it’s one sided, my side.  It’s my blog.  I have never met Jill Zarin in person, only spoken to her on the phone.  I have also never said I hate Bethenny.

@ Gracie:  Right?!

@ House:  It will be interesting to see how they edit the episode now that the truth is out.

@ Sarah:  You’re a hoot and I want to go out for a drink with you.

@ I shall warn my beloved Canada to not drink the SGM!

@ Patricia: It’s a blog about reality television.  Seriously sweetie, lighten up.  If my blog, and the comments are so upsetting, then don’t read them.  You are not seeming to understand that this is a blog, about television, written by a fan, of reality television, who has specific likes and dislikes.  That’s all it is.

@ Kara:  Welcome.  Thanks for writing.

@ Sus: Good for you that you are free to comment over there.  Mine are deleted.  The reality is that reality television will never be what it was in the beginning, which is a shame.

Comment by Ilana Angel on 10/06/11 at 2:46 pm

Ilana:  I understand it’s your blog, “sweetie,” but that doesn’t mean I can’t take exception to you pretending it’s anything other than your own very biased opinion.  If you’re stating your own theory/opinion, then don’t try to present it as accurate and fair reporting.  The fact that you can devote this much of your life to trying to demean and interfere with the life of a stranger is worrying enough.  As for the good old days of television, “The Real World” was hardly real, so it’s rather ridiculous to weep for the “honesty” of that thoroughly staged show.

Comment by Patricia Butler on 10/06/11 at 2:57 pm

Good job on the blog!! All of these show are fake. I think we just need to start talking about her. She is a waste of time. By the way who has the time to count how many blogs you have written about her. Someone needs to get a life!!

Comment by dawn on 10/06/11 at 3:18 pm

SURE sounds like someone is jealous to me.  She is 100 percent on the level and people are just jealous that she is not even 40 yet and has MORE MONEY then you guys will ever have. GOOD FOR HER DO HER THING… love her.

Comment by GETAGRIP on 10/06/11 at 3:34 pm

How is anyone jealous of Bethenny just because we don’t believe she is any better than all the other housewives?  I don’t get it. I don’t like her because it is patently obvious that she tries to dupe her fans. The Whole Foods debacle was carried by most news agencies and very anti-Bethenny.  So, Patricia are those new agencies hate blogs because they called it “Toxic” even the DailyMail in the UK called it Toxic, Please!

As for being the grammar police that is so trite and low brow. Everyone can express their opinion and just because I disagree with you doesn’t mean I don’t think you have the right to your opinion. However, you went on and on about how there wasn’t unbias reporting. This is a blog and it is mere opinion.  As Ilana stated ad nauseum that her blog is mere opinion. If it opinion and one that someone doesn’t like usually they move on to a subject they like or point out reasons their point of view should stand.  I have yet to hear how Bethenny’s Whole Foods false advertisement, fake boobs, Bobby Frankel relationship (look at the Bobby Frankel Memorial Page on FB), Coast Guard issue and many others can be justified.  I am waiting on it!

Ilana I would love that drink, but please no Skinny anything and for that matter no Beam products.  I am a Diageo girl until they place correct labeling on my All Natural products with extra Benzene.

Comment by Sarah on 10/06/11 at 4:55 pm

oh and GETAGRIP please don’t place me in Bethenny’s level.  You don’t know how much money I have and I can assure you there is no competition 2.0 and 3.0 Gen Yers have a lot more money if they built anything in the last 6 years.

Oh and Bethenny is 40.  She is going to be 41 this year.

How is she 100% on the level Julie, oh I mean Lynn, Oh I mean GETAGRIP!

Comment by sarah on 10/06/11 at 4:59 pm

Patricia Butler all celebrity blogs are mere opinion. Lynn’s blog is opinion.  Lynn has a very anti-semitic opinion and she calls her blog “I Hate Jill Zarin,” but is mere opinion. Perez Hilton’s blog is mere opinion. They are commentators on how they see life and reality TV.

Ilana wrote about Real Housewives of NJ who frankly received more than 1.2M more viewers than NY and 1.5M more views than Bethenny’s show, but very few people commented on what Ilana wrote. No one was saying she was bias against Teresa or Melissa or Caroline or Jacqueline.  I only see it when it is Bethenny.

Bethenny is a celebrity and that is a fact. Some of us believe she is duplicitous and that is our truth. So what! It is what it is…Opinion and nothing more.

Comment by Sarah on 10/06/11 at 5:13 pm

Actually she is 40, according to Wikipedia, and will be 41 in early November…but that is just a reaction to the last comment I read.

I’m so glad people are finally seeing the truth!  I actually have bristled at the site of Bethenny ever since I first saw her on RHONY season 1…her trainwreck personality and dated lame “witticisms” were really annoying to me!  But I watched in dismay as she became ever more popular, all the while behaving in a horrific manner.  If you just watch RHONY from beginning to end, you can see the contradictions and see how any cuteness she once had deteriorated and how mean-spirited and greedy she became.  Yuck!

The only thing I find impressive about her is her sheer determination and work ethic…she does work hard…but it is just because she is an egomaniac who borders on pathological.  I have always noticed the lies (again, watch and they are revealed) but I’m SO glad other people are starting to realize them too!  Yay, karma!

Comment by Rachel on 10/06/11 at 5:24 pm

Wait… so is this a blog?  A blog about reality television?

Comment by just wasted my time on 10/06/11 at 6:52 pm

I cannot watch Betheny’s show, she is far too abrasive in my opinion ( and for the record, no I did not ask anyone else or do any research, just MY opinion), and when I saw the lost at sea article on MSNBC’s website, I already had my doubts…she and Bravo clearly have no boundries when it comes to selling a story, and that is really sad.

Comment by tracy on 10/06/11 at 7:20 pm

Sarah: I’ve never heard of Lynn’s blog, and I don’t follow Perez Hilton.  And you’re right—your opinion of Betheny is nothing but our own fantasy.
Rachel: I find it fascinating that in the same sentence you praise Bethenny’s work ethic and then use it to insult her.  I find it both interesting and incredibly sad that when a woman succeeds those most likely to work to pull her back down again are other women. It’s a complete misperception that men can’t deal with successful women.  It’s women (most often not so successful themselves) who acn’t deal with another woman’s success.  And isn’t that a shame?

Sarah:  I wasn’t being the “grammar police.”  If I went around correcting all the lousy grammar on the internet I’d have no time for anything else.  I was merely pointing out the irony of Kara accusing someone (a college graduate no less) of having “less education” by way of a nearly incomprehensible sentence fragment.  As for Whole Foods, either you get your news from this blog or else you read very different newspapers than I do. I did read about the Whole Foods situation, which was really no situation at all.  I didn’t see any actual news outlets being “anti Bethenny”. In fact, Whole Foods actually tried to correct those who were erroneously reporting that they had removed the Skinny Girl products from their shelves.  (They didn’t; they simply didn’t place another order when their stock ran out.)  As far as I know, Bethenny sold that brand, so I’m not sure how it’s even her problem.  As for her relationship with her father, how in the world is that any of your business?  A child’s relationship with their parent(s) is the same as someone’s relationship with their spouse: NO ONE knows what the true story is except the two (or 3) people directly involved.  For you to presume to insert yourself into that equation is nothing short of ludicrous. And I don’t know what happened with the Coast Guard.  Frankly, neither do you.  This blog is hardly the NY Times.  If this is where you’re getting your “facts” it’s no wonder you seem so ill-informed and confused.

Comment by Patricia Butler on 10/06/11 at 8:03 pm

OK…let me get this straight….You just know Bethenny is lying because why?
You spoke to this man on the phone and have now determined that everything Bethenny said is a lie and he is telling nothing but the truth.  Oh wait, you also state that this man and his wife, who you didn’t talk to, are such great people.  I know this is just a blog and you obviously do not hold a journalism degree, but come on.  You are so biased and obviously jealous that you have gone over the edge.
Please stop stating that this woman is living a lie, and being so hateful about it, with zero proof.  By the way…you also shouldn’t state that the guy is so great and honest just because of a phone call….it shows your stupidity and rush to judgements.

Comment by Patty on 10/06/11 at 9:24 pm

Yes, Bethenny has more money than the rest of us and has slept with more men than perhaps this entire board.  All the qualities we should find “inspiring”.

From whatever “storyline” she is throwing out there this week, she may have had ambitions but for many years she was a “kept woman” through many of those men she dated,or found herself engaged to, as she took up housekeeping and found herself with plenty of charge cards with each “newfound love”. She wasn’t exactly starving to death.

Then came poor Jason whom she married after a whirlwind 6 month courtship (and a positive pregnancy test) which she managed to work into a reality t.v. show.

Few of her “devotees” are capable of seeing the irony of making your money via an alcoholic beverage while slamming your mother and stepfather as raging drunks!

If this is the road to success that she is pitching to young women I hope my daughters pay no heed.  It’s based on nothing but sheer opportunism and deserves to be called out for what it is.

Comment by Donna on 10/06/11 at 10:30 pm

Wow, Donna, judgmental much?  How do you know how many men Bethenny has slept with?  Or the rest of us for that matter?  And how is that relevant to your life, or ours? And how do you know she was a “kept woman”? What makes you so certain that any man she was involved with ever supported her? Were you privy to their financial arrangements?  And why should her estranged mother’s drinking problem have anything to do with one small portion of Bethenny’s business pursuits? If we all had to base our business decisions around the bad choices made by others, I imagine we’d all have a pretty difficult time getting ahead. And if your daughters are basing their life choices on the actions of people they see on reality TV, then it’s their mother who carries the blame, not the TV personality.

Comment by Patricia Butler on 10/06/11 at 10:50 pm

The issue with Bethenny is that she doesn’t seem to care who she hurts. She’s mean. She trashes her mother and her father on reality TV to make herself seem sympathetic.  That is a very unnattractive quality and one not to be admired. That is one of the reasons some of us see her as an opportunist. I’m with Donna. Bethenny comes from a privileged background with many connections. The odds were in her favor that she would be financially successful. Not many people have those advantages. And it is ironic that she sells alchohol but hated her parents drinking. An admirable person might make the choice not to promote something that has caused such unhappiness in their life. I’m not against her selling alchohol, just the mixed signals she sends. She wrote an advice book, so she is promoting life choices to others even though she is just a reality TV star. Emotionally speaking, her life doesn’t look that fulfilling to me.

Comment by pryan on 10/07/11 at 3:40 am

Bethenny mentions the men in her life both in her book and on the E program for starters.  Accomplished men with lots of money and a series of engagements that she eventually broke off.

Secondly, she herself says that she hopes to become an “inspiration” for young women out there, not something I made up.

Third, she spends a lot of time decrying her upbringing, blaming much of it on the fact that both her mother and stepfather had a drinking problem.  This is when one would think that the furthest thing to pursue would be selling booze as a business venture if what she says is to be believed.

If being “judgmental” is calling her out on the very things she promotes then judgmental it is.  But instead of looking at this phony and holding her up to scrutiny is “verboten” then why is she exposing herself on reality t.v. and thinking she could get away with the contradictions?

Comment by Donna on 10/07/11 at 8:14 am

To the people complaining about the subject matter here, this is very clearly labeled as a blog about reality television. You may have innocently wandered-in from elsewhere in the Jewish Journal, but yes it is what it is.
To IIlana, I hope that you don’t get discouraged by your critics. The very ideas that people like Betheny, and other Bravolebrities would have people believe is reality, is why it is so important to bring-out the truths.
Betheny even wrote a guide-book purportedly telling other women how they can be just like her. Telling young women that it is reasonable to expect to wait ‘till they are 40 to start their family is dangerous propaganda. As far as propaganda goes, its practically genocidal. This is just one reason why holding reality television’s feet to the fire is important. I’m sure that IIlana wouldn’t want her future daughter-in-law taking advice from the likes of BF, and I wouldn’t want mine to either.
Please keep up the good work. I really think that the future depends on it.

Patricia,

I was the ONLY one that posted news articles from NY Post, Daily Mail and from Daily News on the Whole Foods Debacle and I can give you the NYTimes and WSJ where they say EXACTLY what I said. They stated unequivocally that it was “toxic,” their words not mine.  They said that Whole Foods pulled the product when it came to their attention that the ingredients list was not fully listed.

http://onespot.wsj.com/nyc-news/2011/09/02/44862/whole-foods-drops-bethenny-frankel-drink

Oh and Bethenny is NOT a college graduate. She did not finish NYU. She completed only 1.5 yrs with the transfer from Boston U. I checked because I am a NYU graduate.  She is not an alumni of MY University.

Are you kidding me on Whole Foods you must be reading impaired.  I am sorry for the slam, but you must be. Whole Foods stated unequivocally that they did pull the product from their shelves.  Beam was the one that said they didn’t reorder.

This is MSN report:
http://specials.msn.com/A-List/Lifestyle/Whole-Foods-yanks-reality-stars-Skinnygirl-Margarita.aspx?cp-documentid=30411517

It was pulled even in Whole Foods own statement, that they PULLED the product. Go ask your local Whole Foods if you come back with any lies since you sound like Julie or Lynn now that you said that patently false lie I saved Whole Foods press release on it just for you when you.

As for Bethenny’s relationship with her father well it is documented that she said she didn’t have a relationship with him for over 10 years when the show started, that is exactly what she said.  However, the truth is in the photograph and actual people who knew her and Bobby Frankel where she is Photographed with her FATHER at the Belmont Cup in 2003 at 33 years old. She is full of BS. She threw him under the bus to gain pathetic people with low intellect to like her.

As for the Coast Guard I know what the Coast Guard stated which their official statement and well document that they told the therapist (aka Ship’s Captain) to call the Tow Company. Documented baby. Sorry. I do know. I went to find the statement to the press.

I never said Ilana’s blog was the NYTimes, in fact I said it wasn’t.  I repeatedly stated it is MERE Opinion.

What about the fake boobs?  You need some facts lady. I said facts. I supplied links and I said go to Bobby Frankel’s memorial page and people have.

Julie give it up. You are so over it is funny. Say hi to Bethenny for me.

Oh and tell her that NYU will confirm to ANYONE she did not graduate from NYU. It is public.  Sorry Patricia oh I mean Julie!

Comment by Sarah on 10/07/11 at 11:12 am

Oh and Donna I do like your opinion on Bethenny, but don’t believe that no here doesn have more than Bethenny’s NEW money. Some people may have a lot more.  Oh and we made it ourselves actually before 40, unlike Bethenny!

Patricia or Patty you are both. I love you Ilana for the fact you show everyone’s tweets!!! Wonderful you exposed Patricia Butler as Patty which is pretty obvious and likely an oversight on her part, but she did make herself look as if she were two separate individuals based on usernames.

Bethenny is not a NYU graduate. FACT! She never graduated or completed her degree.  70 credits lacking!

Bethenny lied about plastic surgery. Fake Boobs!

Whole Foods Debacle. Fact. Whole Foods pulled the product due to a lack of the ingredients list. Sodium Benzoate. Fact. http://specials.msn.com/A-List/Lifestyle/Whole-Foods-yanks-reality-stars-Skinnygirl-Margarita.aspx?cp-documentid=30411517

Fact Bethenny had an ongoing relationship with her father Bobby Frankel at least until 2003 where she is pictured with him at the dinner and winning of the Belmont Cup.  All his CLOSE friends remember how close they were. FACT on the memorial page. However, Bethenny stated she had no contact with him for over 10 years.

Fact the Coast Guard did not come to her aid as she tweeted repeatedly. Patricia, Patty, Julie or Lynn want me to get the tweets from Bethenny’s Twitter. Ha ha! They were brought in by a Tug Boat Captain that even Ellen joke with Bethenny about and made Bethenny look like a pathetic fool.

Patricia I stated many times Ilana’s blog is mere opinion. My statements are opinion. Ilana stated her writing is opinion. Just because you cannot sway people or win you call it a “fantasy” when I provide proof, especially MSN report, Daily News, NYPost, etc.  Please!

SGM = the needed drying of the shallow end of the Gene Pool. Please Bethenny fans continue to drink we needed to thin out the herd.  Only the strong will survive and SGM drinkers are definitely the weak! Ha ha!

Oh and Patricia or Patty or Julie or Bethenny or Lynn or whatever you calling yourself today Rachel didn’t even address you, yet you thought to correct her statement. She was only stating her OPINION. It differs from yours, but you cannot let it stand.

Oh and on Lynn’s blog there is a Patricia Butler. I checked. Sorry madam, but when it walks like a Lynn, looks like a Lynn and talks like a Lynn it is usually a Lynn Hudson!!!

Please!!!

Sus, I just tried to post and I was blocked on Lynn’s site. Oh well…

Comment by Sarah on 10/07/11 at 11:58 am

Sarah:  This is ridiculous.  My name is Patricia Butler.  That is my name.  It’s been my name since 1961.  That is the name on my birth certificate.  In fact, it’s also my mother’s name, so it’s the name on her birth certificate, too.  I’ve been posting under that same name, and no other, ever since I got my first internet connection in 1995.  My name is not Lynn.  My name is not Julie. My name is not Bethenny.  My name is Patricia.  If you found a posting by me on another website, then it’s either another Patricia Butler (I don’t hold the trademark on the name) or something I posted long ago in response to some specific news story. Just because someone disagrees with some rant you choose to post about the life of someone you don’t know and never will doesn’t mean that the person disagreeing with you is the person you’re wasting your life trashing.

Comment by Patricia Butler on 10/07/11 at 1:26 pm

Ilana I’m sure you have heard about this latest story from Bethenny’s mom and I was wondering what your take is? It’s very curious… I wonder if they are both just insane liars or if there is some validity to Bethenny’s claims. OR Bernadette is extremely hurt by Bethenny’s stories and manipulations and is finally trying to get her side heard.

Wow!  Hysterical much?  In case you want to step into the 21st century, more and more women in their 40s are having children.  My best friend was 44 when she and her husband got pregnant, and their son is a happy, healthy, frighteningly bright child. How ignorant to suggest that telling women that their lives don’t end at 40 is somehow “genocidal”?  You trivialize actual genocide.  Shame on you. The only thing stupider than that comment was your suggestion that this gossipy, rumor and opinion based blog might somehow save the world.  As for your future daughter-in-law taking advice from reality TV stars, I don’t know if this woman actually exists yet or she’s just a figure you’re using to illustrate your hysteria, but if this person is so stupid as to take life lessons from a total stranger over her own family and friends, then maybe you’ve got more to worry about than what Bethenny Frankel is doing—like what kind of poor choices your son is making in a life partner.  Again—get a grip!

I read part of this story on AOL a few minutes ago, and it credited you with the full story and I clicked over.

Enjoyed your writing, thought it was fair and agreed with most of your points.

My Mother’s family is from Boston and we had a summer house on Cape Cod and my Aunt a house on Martha’s vineyard. Grew up sailing every Summer in that area.

And it is a serious waste of time to call the Coast Guard when you are not really in trouble. Ms Frankels fans perhaps are NOT boating people and don’t realize this.

And I do believe another tugboat company turned them down, this guy is like a lot of tug boat and charter captains up there, a straight shooter.

Like you, I liked Frankel on the first season of RHONY. But the way she treats her assts,  husband and his parents really got to me. She has only herself to blame.

Women are so vicious to each other. It’s sad. I’m not a fan of Bethenny, she’s pretty over the top, but I wouldn’t hate blog about her. I wouldn’t hate blog about Jill Zarin either. This is childish. I guess this is why I’m a guy’s girl.

Comment by Natalie on 10/07/11 at 10:10 pm

Sorry to hijack here, but I feel like I must respond to Ms. Butler. I did not say that women’s “lives” end at 40. For practical purposes, their fertility would be considered more, “over”, than “just beginning”, as Bethenny’s and Bravo’s kool-aid would suggest. No need to get upset about it, unless you’re one of those women who feel like they were robbed of their fertility by the kind of disinformation peddled by what we are told is “reality”.
And just to be clear, I have no problem with “reality” tv when it is clearly presented as entertainment. My problem is that it is presented as factual.

Thanks Ilana and thanks Sarah for defending me…I was gonna do it myself but it seemed like a waste of time, since people like Patricia can’t be reasoned with.  But the word “impressive” does not have to be used as praise.  Her work ethic is impressive to be sure, and if she used that energy for good instead of evil, I would be impressed in a positive way.  But as it is, she seems just ego maniacal and pathological and I feel sorry for anyone who has to be near her for any length of time.  I don’t know her, or Jill for that matter, but the Bethenny that she herself presents to the world daily is simply deplorable.  If people can’t see that, and they want to be fans of hers, I am confounded, and saddened, and dismayed.  This blog has finally given me some hope, as I see that there are others out there who see her for the shrew she really is…hurrah and keep up the good work!

No Patricia Butler I stated it first in the Time Line which is verfiable that everyone has their OWN opinion. You have yours and I have mine. Further, I stated that Bethenny lies. You said there was no proof. I provided links. You provided nothing. You then went on after again I stated this is only opinion and NOT a news story that my opinion was “fantasty”...Pot Call that Kettle Black. You cannot see how hypocritical you are. It is very sad.

My role models are not people like Bethenny Frankel who is not even a college graduate. Proof and fact sorry you were wrong yet again.  My role models are Meg Whitman, Carly Fiorina, Indra Nooyi, Irene Rosenfeld, and many others women. You know something about these women not only are the top women in business, but also they all hold a graduate degree. They are women to aspire to like. Oh and all have more than 120M. Meg has over a Billion a lot over a Billion.  Carly received over 150M in one year when she was at Lucent prior to HP.

Lynn doesn’t have news stories on her site and there is a Patricia Butler that not only comments, but also talks about negative blogs about Bethenny.  It is very curious that you are NOT the same person. Actually it would seem you are.

Well since there is no secondary verifiable proof that you are not that person. I will have to go with yours.

You still haven’t provided any proof on Bethenny while I provided proof to back-up mine Real News Agencies. I am waiting on yours.  I have saved the Whole Foods release just to see what you will do.

Oh well Julie…I mean Patricia…Sorry. I hope you have a great day of Atonement!

Just because you have some fan love for the woman which is obvious otherwise you would not defend as much as you do.

Sorry to burst your bubble. Sad!

I truly think all her lies are catching up with her and she will soon he old news..BTW..there is a thread on RT about B’s mom and some comments were made about you by CP and another reader..they don’t stop! Love you, girlfriend!

You seem to feel that the entire world is completely stupid and can’t function without you telling them what to think or feel or believe. Maybe you need to give other people credit for being able to make their own decisions based on more than what someone on TV is doing. I assure you that no one is basing their family planning around what Bethenny Frankel, or any other celebrity, is doing.  As for your problem with reality TV, that is, coincidentally, pretty much what I said about this blog. I don’t mind people expressing their opinions, I only mind when they pretend that their thoroughly biased opinion is actually factual.

Rachel, I have no idea what you’re talking about. Did I ever say anything to you that required defending?

Sarah, you are clearly mentally disturbed. I’m not saying this as an insult; it’s simply an observation based on your behavior here.  Just your obsession with people having college degrees is enough of a red flag.  (FYI, there are a whole lot of extremely successful, extremely rich, extremely productive individuals who never went to college.)  The fact that you once met someone in passing doesn’t mean you know them; it means you met them in passing—that’s it.  While it may give you a better insight than the rest of us on how Bethenny looks in person, it doesn’t give you any special insight into her soul.  Frankly, you really need to spend a whole lot less time worrying about this total stranger and a whole lot more time dealing with your painfully obvious mental health issues.  I’m not kidding.

Comment by Patricia Butler on 10/08/11 at 10:30 pm

Someone has painful “know it all issues”. I find psychological evaluations of commentors a little ridiculous. Isn’t there a more effective way to defend your point of view, than attacking a person? Bethenny appears to be as far from “real” as you can get on reality television and it irritates some of us more than others. If Bethenny is concocting interesting “plot lines” for her reality show, like the hard to believe getting lost at sea event, that is fraudulent as far as I’m concerned. I would rather watch Seinfeld reruns for entertainment, or anything else for that matter.

Again you put words in my mouth-I never said that people are stupid, or that I need, or want to tell them what to think. People do become ignorant when they are given misinformation like this: http://twitter.com/#!/Bethenny/statuses/115123926253838337

Wow, Patricia Butler has been busy giving the rest of us non believers a tongue lashing but forgetting for a moment that she is exhibiting some of the same behavior!  When you “take on” those who do not agree, Patricia, you are projecting the same opinions on people you do no know.  Big difference: Bethenny puts herself on display and is open to any and all criticisms that her exhibitionism has invited.

We are not discussing the debt crisis or whether or not to invade another country here but just offering opinions about people who have made the decision to make their living by pure invention in front of a camera. In other words, something not very important in the overall scheme of things.

Most of these women lie.  About themselves, their past, their financial positions.  Expecting others to swallow this crap whole is what separates us from people who choose to “believe” every false nugget thrown our way.

Comment by Donna on 10/09/11 at 8:47 am

Patricia Butler,

Beyond any reasonable doubt you have anger management issues. You should seek help.

I have stated and supplied my sources.  You have supplied not even one.

Further you go on to say I have mental health issues, which is laughable. When people cannot win points they usually try such a petty ploy like you have.  You are a sad individual who needs to win regardless of any other contrary sourced and documented information.  Are you the blogger Lynn Hudson?  I have to say this is her normal MO when she cannot win her point or one of her followers.  Again, since I do not have any outside 3rd party verfiiable proof I will have to say no, but you sure sound like her.

My point was simply that Bethenny Frankel is a liar. When one lies about their college education it is pathetic. You went on about how she was college educated or did you miss that post you wrote. I can supply it for you.

Whole Foods is a multiple billion $ market capitalized company it needs no defending.  In fact, most analysts say that its current multiple is no where near what it will be in 10 years.  It will be the Walmart of organic, natural, health, and high quality foods globally.  That is a directly from analysts in the food sector JPMorgan, Citi, GS, and Morgan Stanley.

Whole Foods yanked the SGM product due to False Advertising. It didn’t want to get embroiled into a potential law suit for False Advertising where Bethenny and Beam stated that it was All Natural and the product listed ALL the Ingredients and a known added preservative was not mentioned, Sodium Benzoate. Sodium Benzoate with lime which is in the product can create through interaction Benzene a known carcinogen.

Sure there have been countless men and women who have not attended University and have made millions and/or Billions, but they don’t lie about it like Bethenny does. They don’t tell their therapist they are both alumni.  Bethenny stated that lie in BEA during a session with him. They embrace the fact they didn’t graduate university.

However, to any woman who wishes to get ahead in business being a University graduate allows for more doors to open than not. In fact, the more education one has under their belt statisically allows for more doors to open.  Want a source for that. I can supply it.

I have met Bethenny much more than once.  I have stated that several times.  Do I know her soul? No I never stated I did.  I was only countering your point that I never met her. I stated I have.

Oh and having met someone 8 times does not make them a total stranger. I am only commenting when you comment to me or Ilana’s blog. I have it set to tell me when people post. I don’t comment about Bethenny anywhere else. I know she is a liar.

As for Rachel, you directly addressed her post. You referenced her. You went on about her post.  You say you don’t care about Bethenny, yet you defend her whenever you can. You go on and on. You seem to have a vested interest in Bethenny and a crazy fan love ideology for her. It is sad.

You do mind people expressing their OPINIONs. You pick on them even when they say they are only opinions.  You attack Ilana when she says it is an opinion. You try to defend but when you notice you cannot you start with below the belt statements.

Please, you have a vested interest with Bethenny it is patently obvious. You might not work for her, but you obviously have some twisted fan ideology for her. Sad.

Real women are out there to admire and to say what an incredible woman; such as, Irene Rosenfeld, Meg Whitman, Indra Nooyi, former Sara Lee CEO Brenda Barnes and so many others. Those are women in business they are stars of how to be a manager and how to create businesses not some TV personality who makes money ONLY off of fans. It is so sad you don’t see that.

Oh and I knock Jill. I have posts here to prove it.

Hello everyone.  WOW.  I’ve been offline celebrating the Jewish holidays and this morning arrived to all these comments.  Really?  Some made me laugh, some made me nod my head in agreement, some made me think prescription drugs were in order for a couple of you.  I could go on and on, with specific comments to specific commentators, but it won’t matter.  Everyone will think what they want, and that’s cool.

I will share that I got a snarky DM tweet from Lynn Hudson telling me she does not read my “drivel” and that I need to grow up.  So funny that she sent it only minutes after she left a comment, and mentioned me in a thread on her blog.  I read her blog.  I read it because I love reality television and her delusions are entertaining.

It’s television people.  Bethenny invited us to have an opinion when she opened her life and invited us in.  We’re all allowed to say what we want, and she knows it, just as she says what she wants.  At the end of the day, I think she is a liar.  It’s just my opinion, and I will not be bullied into not writing what I believe to be true.  I will continue to write, and wait for the day when when it proven that she is a fraud.  That day is coming and until it’s here, I will enjoy the fun and ignore the crazy.

Thanks for reading, and writing.

Comment by Ilana Angel on 10/09/11 at 9:11 am

It is very interesting how Lynn sends you an email that she doesn’t read your blog when she must have read it or received an email from one of her followers that either read your blog and likely posted here.  If she doesn’t care why does she need to email you?  It is all curious.  It is actually funny!

Did you see that Lynn even stated that Bethenny was so gracious and happy to meet her when they met. That makes Bethenny OK in her book and her agents book! Wow! Love the hypocracy!

Bethenny can lie through her teeth and can stage things, but because she didn’t run when she met Lynn everything is right as rain! Of course that makes absolutely no sense, but whatever it is Lynn!

Love it!

So, Bethenny was portrayed as the Real Deal. The TV reality star that said it as she saw it and now with all the staging we don’t say how hypocritical?  There is no mention of it on Lynn’s blog. Lynn’s followers say well it is fine…it is TV, it is editing, it is Bethenny, it is what Bravo wants, but they would NEVER say that with any other housewife apart from possibly Alex.  Love it! Love it! Such hypocracy.

Comment by Ilana Angel on 10/09/11 at 9:40 am

I just paid a short visit to IHJZ and must admit I have not done so in ages.

The hypocrisy is just flowing over there since the last thing I remembered was that Dina Manzo had been the subject of their distate because of her stupid Twitters but now she is being covered like a First Family event.

Which means that the blog owner has now directed her “Flying Monkeys” to embrace the very same people that were once considered “bad” simply because she rubbed elbows with so many of these phonies who attended the event with their products on sale and consented to having their picture taken with her.

If they are not discussing their cat’s problem with psoriasis, they genuflect to whatever the site owner decrees acceptable.

Lynn Hudson wants so much to be a celebrity that it borders obsession.  And challenging other sites is juvenile.  Many of her “hits” come from the same people who seem capable of spending an entire day online so don’t be too confused by the “numbers”.  Rather deceiving.

Comment by Donna on 10/09/11 at 9:48 am

Ha ha! I am dying! The following statement by Donna was so funny:

“If they are not discussing their cat’s problem with psoriasis, they genuflect to whatever the site owner decrees acceptable.”

So true!

Ilana, Bethenny is Lynn’s fatted calf.  She will ride Bethenny as long as she can.  So will a lot of other bloggers that drew a following from S3 of RHWNY.

They will forgive a lot of what Bethenny does.  They will even justify it.

Bethenny is now demonstrating who she really is.  If she were smart she would stop the nuttiness and try to be real. I don’t know anyone in NYC that goes around just telling people everything in their mind. Because you must be prepared to hear what they think about you in return and it won’t be pleasant.

I like the snark.  I like what you have to write. I like no one will change your mind. I like that all opinions are posted even the ones I do not agree with are here.

Comment by Sarah on 10/09/11 at 9:58 am

What confuses me is that Jill Zarin, whom I do not like at all, can be villified and accused of being behind the “firing” of Simon from the hotel as well as being accused and held responsible for everything that goes wrong but Bethenny is “off limits” by those who worship at her altar.  Hypocrisy much?

I have no inside knowledge of what took place between Bethenny and Jill, nor do I fully accept that they were actual “friends” in the first place.  What I did come to accept was that they, along with the rest of the cast, were “acting” within the confines of the script for the benefit of the cameras and the “drama” it brought to the series.  Jill even admitted as much when she alluded to the fact that the producers urged her to “ramp up the drama” or be gone.  The same from Alex who then became the “scold” this past season.

Bethenny and Jill have both shown that they were each capable of scrambling on the neck of the other to get the exposure and when Bravo made Bethenny the “break out” star the claws came out.  Bethenny the “victim”, Jill the “villain”.  This narrative is evident in each and every Housewives franchise since day one.

Danielle Staub, Teresa Guidice, Ramona Singer, Gretchen Rossi, Camille Grammar, Taylor Armstrong, the Salahis, Christy Rice, each has taken a turn portraying “victims” during the filming of these series which is Bravo’s tried and true formula for ginning up ratings.

They are all paid well for the opportunity.

“Ilana, Bethenny is Lynn’s fatted calf.  She will ride Bethenny as long as she can.  So will a lot of other bloggers that drew a following from S3 of RHWNY.”

Sorry, but how is that any different than what Ilana is doing?

Comment by Patricia Butler on 10/09/11 at 10:34 am

Lynn Hudson wants so much to be a celebrity that it borders obsession.  And challenging other sites is juvenile.  Many of her “hits” come from the same people who seem capable of spending an entire day online so don’t be too confused by the “numbers”.  Rather deceiving.

Again, how is that any different than what goes on here? If Sarah isn’t spending her entire day researching and ranting over trivia, than she’s the fastest typist on the planet.  And you, Ilana, and your own “flying monkeys” are constantly talking about this other person’s group, calling them names, making fun of them, etc. So how is that different than what you’re criticizing them for doing? I only posted here to say that I disagree with you posting an obviously extremely biased personal opinion but trying to pass it off as journalism because you interviewed a single person. As a result, I’ve been called names, I’ve been accused of being other people posting under an alias, I’ve been demeaned and insulted.  Then someone posts how they like you so much because you’ll never change your opinion.  Aside from the fact that a person who refused to consider any opinion other than her own is mostly just stubborn and close-minded, when I—or anyone else who’s foolish enough to post here—expresses an opinion that goes against the “Ilana Kool-Aid drinkers” (hey, if it’s good enough for the other group, why not apply it to yourselves?) and they won’t immediately change their opinion to match that of the people who immediately start attacking them, you say they’re stupid, or ignorant, or have an evil agenda, or “can’t see reason”, etc.  You all yammer on about hypocrisy in the other group, but you seem totally blind to EXACTLY the same sort of behavior here.  The bottom line is that both groups are made up of women who are spending a criminal amount of time obsessing over a TOTAL STRANGER! Bethenny Frankel isn’t bringing about the downfall of civilization. To suggest otherwise is to vest in her far more power than she ever might have dreamed of having.  So instead of putting so much effort and fervor into such a complete nothing of a “cause” (though what it is you think you’re going to accomplish is hazy at best), why not put it into something worthwhile?  Yes, I know—silly suggestion.  I guess my mind has been addled by all these aliases I’m hiding behind.

Comment by Patricia Butler on 10/09/11 at 10:44 am

Patricia,

There is a difference. Ilana writes about all reality TV. When Ilana writes about Bethenny, she allows EVERYONE to comment. Lynn does not. I have tried repeatedly lately and I cannot leave a comment on IHJZ.

Additionally, I can show you old articles from last year where Ilana did not defend Jill at all. Ilana has a equal opportunity blog. She writes about Bethenny because frankly Bethenny is in the news right now with the Coast Guard debacle and before that with Whole Foods.  Yes!

Did you read what she wrote about Ashlee or about Teresa or any other housewife of than Bethenny? I have on Ilana’s blog. I have even commented.

Bethenny is NOT Ilana’s “fatted calf” because Ilana’s blog isn’t like IHJZ.  The premise of her blog which has been around for a very long time was about ALL reality TV that she watches. Lynn always has something about Jill and Jill isn’t even in the news. Someone on Oct. 3rd of this year said to Lynn now that Jill is off why not change the name of this blog.  Lynn said NO. As long as Jill has a twitter account I will call it IHJZ. Now that is kind of petty.  IHJZ was born out of the fight between Jill and Bethenny. If Lynn were to start to blog against Bethenny she would lose the presmise of the IHJZ. She could no longer state I Hate Jill Zarin. She would have to admit Jill is just a woman no better or worse than a lot of TV personalities who want to get ahead and very similar to Bethenny. There is your difference Ilana giving her opinion and always has on all things reality and Lynn based her blog on a fight which Lynn cannot let go no matter what.

Curious, didn’t you write you NEVER read or commented on IHJZ. Hmmm, your statement is dubious and very contradictory. Oh well.

Nice try Patricia…no cigars or prize…

Comment by Sarah on 10/09/11 at 10:57 am

Sweetie, I am not researching or ranting. I sent out emails in response to you. Are you ranting? You seem as if you are Pot Call that Kettle Black…Ha ha!

I spent all of 15 minutes here today. I write fast. I google even faster.

Comment by Sarah on 10/09/11 at 10:59 am

Sarah: If you’re not being allowed to post on someone’s blog, perhaps it’s because your posts, for the most part, sound nuts.  You don’t post comments, you post treatises. I’ve seen successful doctoral dissertations that weren’t as long and involved as some of your posts. So maybe that has a little something to do with you not being welcome everywhere you might want to go.  As for someone having a site called “I Hate Jill Zarin”, I don’t see how agreeing or disagreeing with anything Bethenny Frankel does or says has any bearing on the premise of the blog.  I can hate or love or be indifferent to Jill Zarin without having it affect whether or not I hate or love or am indifferent to Bethenny Frankel.  They’re both total strangers to me.  Why should I waste any substantial part of my life worrying about either of them?

Comment by Patricia Butler on 10/09/11 at 11:04 am

Sweet Patricia,

On Lynn’s blog many people are not allowed to post because they do not agree with her. I can give you their names. It was last year when we said Bethenny is just as big a farse as Jill. Sorry again, since your point has been refuted. Lynn has so many people who dislike her it is funny!

Patricia, if you think my logic is faulty then you need to go back and take a class in logical reasoning. Lynn stated that her blog was born from the fight between Jill and Bethenny, fact. Lynn stated that as long as Jill is around even with a twitter account she will be relevant and she will continue to hunt her (paraphrasing now). Lynn is four score for Bethenny, fact. She even stated that yesterday. Lynn will not write against Bethenny. Lynn’s blog premise was to go after Jill due to what she did to Bethenny. Lynn stated the premise. It is what it is. When a thesis statement is out there by the author you can usually go with it as a statement of fact.

Also, the opposite of hate or love is only indifference, which is no emotional response. That is in most logical deducitve proofs. You want a source? I can get it for you.  I am the fastest google and bing person you have ever seen.

You keep on writing and we keep on responding that is all. You address me so I would think it would be rude not to reply. Sorry about that!

Oh and I have my doctorate thank you got it when I was 24 that is why I said don’t count out Gen Yers. We have built companies and made mutli-millions way before 40!

Patricia you provide no proof of your point of view. You like below the belt statements, that usually shows a lack of education. Oh well!

Another 2 minutes gone! Geez!

If you think you are wasting your time, then why bother replying? If it is to be polite, then that is another story!

Comment by Sarah on 10/09/11 at 11:28 am

” Why should I waste any substantial part of my life worrying about either of them?”  Good question, Patricia.  Why?

You appear to insist that your position alone is only worth considering.  But you also seem to protest too much.  A blogsite is merely an opinion designed to elicit opinion one way or the other.

Because I have no use for Jill Zarin or her like, this does not make me automatically a fan of Bethenny Frankel.  For me there is little difference between the two.  Each has exposed themselves to the public because each wishes to be considered “important” in a world of make believe.  It is how low they will go in making that a “reality” that invites mockery.  They each seem to have no limits in achieving that desire end.

Each of these women were handed the “brass ring” not out of any talent but just for being in the right place at the right time and a willingness to set aside any dignity or integrity they may have had.  This makes them “ripe” for the brickbats they may find coming their way simply by the behaviors they exhibit.

Get over it.

Ilana dear..

“An interesting take on my blog from one of Lynn’s flying monkeys.  I wrote a comment and I’m watching to see how long it takes for them to pull it down.  Hilarious.  http://www.tvtime101.com/?p=16703”

Why would you make the assumption that I am affiliated with any other blog?  How childish to assume that all people who may not agree with you come from a single playground as flying monkeys?

I find it interesting that you also assume that I would delete your comment.  I have forum rules and so far you have not broken the rules but hurling insults is treading heavily on the spam button.

Comment by ImaJustSaying on 10/09/11 at 1:57 pm

Ima,

I apologize for the assumption.  It was more about the comments on your blog, some of which came to post here.  Your article spent a lot of time quoting my blog out of context, but just as I am free to write what I want, so are you.  I found your piece funny in some parts, and a bit harsh in others, but that is how people view mine also.  My assumption was that you would remove my comment, and for that I apologize.  It was unkind and unfair. I don’t really pay that much attention and to clump everyone together was understandable, but not cool.  I need to get all the names straight and pay closer attention, but if I do, I fear I will get sucked into the drama, which is just too exhausting.  Thanks for posting, and please accept my apology for my silly mistake.

Comment by Ilana Angel on 10/09/11 at 2:13 pm

ILana,

Thanks you, it is easy to clump everyone together but thats not an affiliation I want to be clumped into wink

I hate to break it to you, but if you are blogging about Real Housewives, you are ALREADY sucked in the drama.  lol Buckle up!  Well at least for tonight’s season finale for RHONJ.. gonna be some serious blogging in the bloggaverse!

Teresa actually wrote a blog in advance on her website and I grabbed quite a few excerpts and commented on it.  It is also a first and I assume against the rules to do so.  She has now taken it down..  check it out here.

I will check out your blog on hers, and the one on the finale.  Let the games begin!

Sarah:  If you are so intelligent that you were able to get an advanced degree by the age of 24, then I find it even more sad that this is how you choose to use your time and intelligence.  I also have to say that I’m surrounded by people with PhDs and I’ve never, ever encountered even a single one of them that was as hung up as you are on whether or not people graduated from college.  Normally that type of obsession denotes someone who is insecure about their own educational shortcomings, not someone who has excelled in their academic pursuits.  Just saying.

Patricia,

There are a lot of people who have been able to receive a Ph.D by 24 and I am not a snob. I was refering to your post.  You seem to have forgotten it, so I will provide a refreasher for you, which as follows:
“I was merely pointing out the irony of Kara accusing someone (a college graduate no less) of having “less education” by way of a nearly incomprehensible sentence fragment.

This was your post to me when referencing Kara. You stated in the sentence that Bethenny was a college graduate. The sentence structure would dictate that “someone” refers to Bethenny as a college graduate. You were in fact mistaken because Bethenny is not a college graduate.

I am not a snob on educate. However, I am a snob dealing with people who say that have one and do not in fact have a degree. It minimizes those of us who spent time, money and years of studying to achieve what we have.

Education is something to be admired Patricia. I am very proud of what I have accomplished in Unversity and out of it at my age. I don’t know a single person who has accomplished what I have that doesn’t feel the same way.

You miss the point I don’t care if Bethenny graduated or not, but I do care that she makes people believe she did. I don’t like people going around calling themselves an alumnus of my University when in fact they did not graduate. It is a lie. It is fraudulent. It is grounds for firing if she were employed. The CEO of Radio Shack years ago was fired for lying that he had University degree when he did not. He turned around Radio Shack, but the lie was too great. Education still means something to corporate America and to Americans in general. So, yes if you lie about education it is a statement about how little character you have. Bethenny doesn’t have much of one in my opinion.

Sorry again Patricia, you have no cigar and definitely no prize.

I noticed that she said they had only beans on the boat AFTER she said Jason was going to cook for team building exercise to help their marriage. Are the beans a sign Jason was given more fart scenes? I wondered if the cameras were on the boat. Thanks for informing us. I was horrifed when I saw Bethenny tweeting during the hurricane from The Hamptons with her baby with them. It was NOT safe to have a baby out there. Did the camera crew film that too?

Comment by Bjan on 10/10/11 at 12:46 am

Sarah-I have not checked Bethenny’s Alma Mater yet, but according to Wiki, and maybe even in general, the term “Alum”, is somewhat “ambiguous”. The Latin translation that I can find says, “student”, and, “to raise up”.
Look at what Georgetown U. says about it on its website:
(quote))“How do I join the Alumni Association?
You become a member of the Alumni Association when you graduate. It’s automatic. There are no dues to pay or forms to fill out.
What if I didn’t graduate?
As long you completed two semesters in a degree-granting program at Georgetown, you are considered an alumnus or alumna. To request alumni status, contact the Alumni Records office”(endquote)
Did Bethenny intentionally try to imply that she graduated? I don’t know.
People can be educated without having a degree. People can have a degree(s), and be ignorant, and uneducated, (see:Kelly, Teresa)
-That’s not to take-away from your points on the value of degree(s), or education.
Years after I attended some certain educational institutions, I noticed that I would see them mentioned with the words, “the prestigious”, “elite”..., preceding their names. At the time that I attended, the only difference that I noticed was that my classmates bought their black-opiated-hash, by jumping-on a 747 and going shopping in Iran, while the kids in my school got it from their older brothers who came back from Viet Nam…...I attended a few of these “elite” institutions because my own district did not offer summer school ha ha, but I never considered myself an alum. Maybe I should? wink

It looks like NYU has a Bethenny Frankel (‘92) eligible to register for online alumni (input “Frankel”) http://alumni.nyu.edu/s/1068/index.aspx?sid=1068&gid=1&pgid=8&cid=46
BU’s “online” Alum status looks a little more degree-oriented, but they also have an inclusion policy for people who did not graduate.
If she did not directly say or imply that she had a degree, or “letters” after her name, I don’t know if I would agree that she lied about this? (there are other instances like the ingredients for SG…)

Comment by Housewifehater on 10/10/11 at 8:34 am

Uh-Oh, I have what may be some bad news for you Sarah, http://blogs.nyu.edu/blogs/eln205/alumni/2008/06/bethenny_frankel_wsc_92.html The official NYU blog features Betheny as an Alum on their site since 2008.
I don’t know if we can blame Betheny if P.Butler and others make the mistake of thinking that she graduated?
(copied from above link) Bethenny Frankel (WSC ‘92)
You may know Bethenny Frankel from The Real Housewives of New York City on Bravo, but did you know that she is an NYU Alumna as well? (endquote)
I know that I look at the names of Alumni when considering enrollment, and I’m sure that NYU is aware of the recruitment-value of famous names as well.
Just for the record, I think that an education is more important than a degree, and they are not mutually exclusive.

I’ve very honestly never understood blind devotion or the need to tenaciously defend someone fans don’t even know. It crosses the fine line between an interest and an obsession. I immediately discount anything spouted with netspeak, third grade level writing, or anything along the lines of ‘youze jus haters’.

I’m interested to see how this plays out, because Bethenny has made point after point that she is authentic if a bit whacked.

I know it “due to speed” and not “do to speed” you are very gauche aren’t you? I hope you have fun with it. Sad!

BS Patricia Butler because NYU confirmed that she did not in fact graduate from NYU. Nice lie. Now I know you are a liar…

As for NYU, they require to qualify for alumni status to complete the degree even a certificate degree.  I know Yale requires only 2 consecutive years to qualify for alumni status.  Many Universities are different.

Patricia why lie…Fact you didn’t call and you know it. Who did you talk to because I spoke to Ms. Chute head of Alumni Relations and she confirmed Bethenny did NOT graduate. Why lie Patricia?...or should I say Lynn or Bethenny herself…

Comment by Sarah on 10/10/11 at 12:39 pm

Patricia Butler,

How pathetic are you? The head of the alumni association never received a call from you and funny there happens to have been over a 1,000 Sarahs which have graduated from NYU…wow you are a strange and sad woman. You do need to seek help for your anger management issues.

Comment by Sarah on 10/10/11 at 12:46 pm

Housewifehater,

I know that was the 2008 alumni blog and Bethenny has been taken off because she in fact is not a graduate of NYU. She is no longer on the NYU intranet link which has everyone from Maria Bartiromo to Alec Baldwin.  She did attend NYU and I do not deny it, but she has not completed her degree. The blog from NYU was an old 2008 link and they do have updated links.  They never take down old links.

Patricia very funny they never heard from you at the alumni relations at all.

Sorry no cigars, but you are gauche for trying.  Oh and Patty or Lynn or Bethenny you are known to be a liar…

Patricia,

Sorry “due to speed” not “do to speed” as I said. I am fast and no edit button.

As for NYU, that is an old blog out in 2008.  They have many old blogs, but she isn’t on the alumni intranet which has Maria Bartiromo to Alec Baldwin…hmmm and Alan Greenspan…no Bethenny though. She did do 2 years there I do not deny it. Never said I did. I said she never completed the degree.  She didn’t graduate. Now if 2 years equals alumni status well that is something else.  I received mine since I graduated. However the head of the alumni relations said Bethenny didn’t graduate from NYU and was NOT an alumni. Maybe she didn’t pay her dues.

Oh yes Patricia funny, I am sure on “Sarah” you asked if Sarah went to NYU. Hmmmm. There have been over 1,000 Sarah’s who have graduated undergrad at NYU. Funny! No cigar yet again Lynn…oh I mean Patricia.

You called them at 11:30AM earliest really? I don’t think so…liar! Nice try. again no cigar!

But you are gauche…so very gauche. Gosh you must have your neck hairs all the way up. Lynn…run along!

And yet you said you were not the “grammar police”...Pot Call that Kettle Black and so apparent! Love it!

Sarah, I’m getting thoroughly sick of your nonsense. As I’ve stated NUMEROUS times now, MY NAME IS PATRICIA BUTLER. I’m not Lynn, or Bethenny, or any of the other several people you’ve accused me of being.  I am posting under my real name, which also happens to be my screen name, which also happens to be THE SAME AND ONLY NAME I’VE HAD SINCE I FIRST GOT AN INTERNET CONNECTION.  It’s pretty “gauche” of you to keep suggesting that I’m anyone else.  By the way—is “gauche” the only French word you know?  Or is it just a word you once heard on “The Real Housewives of Wherever” that you think makes you sound sophisticated?  Either way—learn a new word.  Obviously my comment about NYU not claiming you was meant as a joke.  Just as obviously, you aren’t a personal buddy of everyone at the registrar’s office, nor would I be likely to call some random woman in Alumni Relations to check someone’s college credentials.  And, quite frankly, while I don’t believe that Bethenny (or the registrar’s office at NYU) is lying about her college credentials, I do very much think you’re lying about yours.  To be even more frank, you don’t sound all that intelligent.  In fact, you sound very, VERY much like someone trying very hard to sound like how she thinks an educated person should sound; the constant “gauche” is quite a tell, not to mention the endless obsession with other people’s college credits.  Of course the bottom line to all of this is that it doesn’t matter whether Bethenny graduated from NYU, Harvard, or is a 3rd grade dropout. The fact is she’s far, far more successful—and no doubt far happier—than someone who spends all day and all night on a blog message board trying to cook up conspiracy theories about a total stranger.  And I guess that’s just what I have to say about that.

I think willfull ignorance is every bit as wrong as telling lies, either in whole or in part. When you have a strong belief and you only seek out and write about those things that support your belief, either deliberately not seeking out or ignoring any opposing input, that’s also a form of deception.

Comment by Patricia Butler on 10/10/11 at 8:17 pm

I like reading people’s comments, however I would rather not be involved in an endless argument between just 2 of them. Frankly, I’m just a little dizzy and confused. Bethenny’s college history isn’t worth fighting about. It is only a small part of her life and since she isn’t masquerading as a professor it doesn’t matter to me.

Comment by pryan on 10/11/11 at 4:46 am

I wonder what it says about Bethenny that her therapist helped concoct this scenario?

The government doesn’t take kindly to having their services abused. If the Coast Guard had gone out to rescue a boat with a working GPS and maps, I imagine someone would have lost their job over it (remember the ‘police’ escort the Salahi’s got on DC?). If this story is indeed true, Bethenny’s use of hard working first responders for the sake of fake drama is reprehensible.

Bethenny Frankel is a Liar, a Fake, and a PHONY…!!!!....Who would lie about being stranded in a Boat in the Ocean, involve the Coast Guard and then lie about what happens….For the Publicity….??!!.....She should be thrown in Jail…!!!!

Really…Patricia Butler, please give it a rest already, your constant rebuttals and defense of Bethenny is becoming quite boring and tiresome.  Give it a rest…if the story didn’t have some merit to it, I believe Bethenny, Bravo or at least someone would have given a professional statement refuting these “supposed lies” by now, instead of an irritated tweet or a facebook post by Bethenny herself saying that these these things being said about her are “idiocies”.

The above comment made by her shows her true colors; it is the reason why she is a person that you can’t root for in life.  She is arrogant, indignant, condescending, insulting and has a huge ego.  She has chosen to expose all of herself in public in order to become famous and she just doesn’t know when to stop.  If she is trying to become a role model for women, then her exaggerations, manipulations, fabrications will be scrutinized by those who are able to see through the real crap she is dishing out.  It has been very obvious from day one with her, at least from my perspective.

Comment by Alison on 10/11/11 at 4:57 pm

I wonder what it says about the therapist’s sailing skills that he can’t operate a boat without GPS. Every report I read about the incident, not just this one, said that they lost GPS and that was the only distress. Sorry, sounds pretty concocted, or kind of stupid, to me.

Oh, sorry, and your endless bitching about Bethenny is what? Fascinating?  If you weren’t so anxious to create this BS “war” with opposing factions maybe you would have noticed that I haven’t been defending Bethenny.  What I’ve been doing is saying that Ilana’s “reporting” is baised and inaccurate and that she shouldn’t try to pretend that it’s anything else.  She cited a single source, a guy who, in other, more balanced reports, sounds like a rather greedy, nasty individual who’s just mad because he thinks he should have gotten a wad of cash above and beyond his fee rather than just something as paltry as a big show of gratitude.  He’s also been quoting in a number of sources as being angry about not getting more credit in addition to not getting more money.  Nice guy.  By the way, I’m happy to know that you can navigate a boat in a large body of water without any navigational equipiment. I’ve had trouble finding my way to a particular island, in a small motorboat, in a relatively small lake, so you must be one helluva sailor to be able to look at a big blue expanse and, without any navigational equipment or landmarks to guide you, know just where you need to go.  Impressive!

Patricia Butler, you sure like to evade the issues at hand.  Let’s repeat; 1). This my dear is a blog that contains written verbiage of a woman’s opinion (Ilana Angel)on Reality stars and the like.  If Bethenny Frankel chooses to be a fool in public, it is fair game for a blogger to comment their biased or unbiased opinions.  It is fair to say that Bethenny made remarks that she had tipped this gentleman a certain amount of money but he indicated it was untrue.  As a person who probably takes his job very seriously, and is not caught up in reality nonsense like the rest of us, for whatever his reasons, he stated his side of the story as to what occurred, which sounded pretty clear and reasonable to me. I’m also assuming, Patricia, that if you did a particular job for someone, and that person indicated they gave you compensation for that job, when in fact they didn’t, you may speak up yourself, because you seem to be the outspoken type from what I can tell on this blog site.

2). I would love to be privy to the sources that indicate his anger and irritation about not receiving enough credit, if you wouldn’t mind posting a link here, that would be great.

3). It is quite possible that Bethenny and her crew were a bit off course toward their destination, but the horror, agony and trepidation that she reported was sustained, on her facebook page and twitter account, appears quite outlandish compared to what the person who actually “rescued” them indicated.  And I have yet to hear from anyone else, so far, that this gentleman has made anything up.

Given Bethenny’s track record of manipulating, exaggerating and fabricating the truth (i.e. just recently whole foods), until I see or hear proof that this gentleman is an out and out liar, I will continue to despise that woman for the true phony she is.

Seriously, you need to get some help because you are pathologically obsessed with Bethenny. So she and Bravo fake or exaggerate or misrepresent some things to make her show more dramatic and interesting. You call yourself a reality TV blogger - you should know that this is the approach for all “reality” shows.

Comment by pamela tee on 10/11/11 at 10:25 pm

Alison:  I’m not your dear, and I’m very well aware that this is nothing but a blog consisting of nothing but one extremely biased woman’s extremely biased opinion. It is the fact that she reports dishonestly, pretends it’s journalism, and then crows when other internet outlets pick up her biased nonsense and run with it that troubles me. Frankly, nothing Bethenny Frankel has ever done or said comes anywhere near being as dishonest and dangerous as what this woman does on this single blog.  And you don’t know this “gentleman” any more than you know Bethenny Frankel.  You have no clue if Bethenny Frankel has ever lied to anyone about anything, and you also have no clue if this “gentleman” lies to everyone on a daily basis.  The fact that you would state that one of these people is good and the other bad based on nothing more than your wish to believe so pretty much says everything that needs to be said about your ability—or lack thereof—to discuss anything with any level of integrity.

Oh, and it’s called google.com.  Do your own homework.

Many sailors use the sun and the stars as a last resort. GPS is relatively new in the world of sailing the seas. If the boat did not have standard navigational tools like a compass and maps, the captain was extremely deficient, or careless. And that is my final word on why anything I’ve read or heard about B’s adventure doesn’t make any sense to me.

I find it comical that the author and people who have commented, never met Bethany face to face or had a conversation with her, don’t know her personally at all, only have seen her on TV, know for a fact that all that she says is lies. The author says ‘She has made claims about her childhood, her parents, her career, her love life, her marriage, and her little boat trip.  She has built a house of half-truths and it’s all going to come crashing down’.
How do YOU KNOW this? Is this just your opinion of her? It certainly isn’t a fact. How do you KNOW that she has lied about her childhood? Her marriage?
How do you know for FACT that she has lied about anything?? Because other people have said that she’s lied about things? What if THEY are the ones lying?
FACT IS, you’re just a blogger, and all of this is only your opinion, not fact.

This all reeks of a certain someone with a name that rhymes with zill barin…it’s so obvious that most of these posts are written by her or her family/friends/minions. How can I tell? It’s all in the writing style, which we’ve come to know already because we’ve seen it before. Furthermore, only someone with a major axe to grind would put so much effort into attempting to defame Bethany, and have a prepared list of all the “proof” ready to go, like prosecutors in a major trial. Plus the self-righteous indignation and mock outrage (”how DARE she!”) is classic Jill, like when she does the exact same thing on the reunion shows. Most fans like Bethany, and even the ones that don’t would never be so full of vitriol and outrage towards her…no one cares enough. Except Jill. And whoever Jill pressures in to make a big fuss over things like this on blogs and gives them all the ammunition she gives them to use when they chime in. Nice try, but sorry, I see what’s really going on here and I think the majority of people do as well.

Comment by Rachel on 10/14/11 at 4:11 pm

I just felt compelled to post this article here. It’s an archived article from 2004 regarding Bethenny and the fact that she omits that she spent 99.5% of her evenings in her paternal grandparents’ restaurant.  I thought she had no relationship with anyone in her family.  This article was written in the New York Times before Bethenny was even on a reality show.

And, no Michael D, I have no affiliation with any housewives.  I had an interest in Bethenny early on because I thought she was an average person who made it.  But she is just a privileged ungrateful brat who was handed connections and opportunities that most hard working women would kill for and she shows no appreciation nor is she humble about anything. I feel that she is undeserving of her success not because she doesn’t work hard.  I’m sure I work just as hard if not harder than her (and there are many women who do) but she is giving women false hopes of success. Right now I have a friend who is busting her butt working like a dog to get a very creative idea started for children, and because of her lack of connections or privileged lifestyle, a children’s store owner in NYC would not even give her the time of day.  So, Bethenny, to me is a spoiled, exaggerating, self-absorbed, manipulator.  I don’t care if she earns $200 billion her personality sucks.

Rachel:  I’m not supplying you with any sources because I haven’t made any claims, nor am I authoring a blog that I’m trying to pass off as objective journalism. When someone asks me to go fetch for them a news story that has been published in literally dozens of sources and can be googled in less than 10 seconds by simply typing “Bethenny Frankel” into a google news search, then the only response they deserve is “Oh, and it’s called google.com. Do your own homework.”

Comment by Patricia Butler on 10/14/11 at 10:09 pm

Michael:  It’s kind of hard to believe that even someone as aimless as Jill Zarin hasn’t managed to move on enough by now to spend this much time hammering away at Bethenny Frankel.  Besides, I think you greatly underestimate the capacity of random individuals/bloggers to dedicate a good portion of their lives to obsessively trashing a total stranger who doesn’t have even the remotest thing to do with them.

Comment by Patricia Butler on 10/14/11 at 10:16 pm

Rose:  You need to read the article again.  It doesn’t say that Bethenny spent her time in her grandparents’ restaurant. It says, “Growing up, Ms. Frankel said, ‘‘I spent 99.5 percent of my evenings at a restaurant.’’ Her father’s family owned a kosher catering business as well as Knish Knosh, an old-school knish shop in Queens.”  The article doesn’t mention whether the “family” was grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc., nor does it say they had a restaurnt—a catering business and a knish shop.  But the article then goes on to say that she spent a lot of time at Don Pepe’s.  So I think your approaching the article with your mind set that you’re going to find yourself a “gotcha” moment, even if your brain has to fill in the gaps in your presumptions.  What I read in that article was that Bethenny was incredibly hard-working and smart enough to use any connections she had to create success for herself.  If that’s what you consider a bad role model for women, then I think you’ve got a pretty skewed concept of role models.  If your friend can’t make it, then maybe the fault lies with your friend, not Bethenny Frankel.

Comment by Patricia Butler on 10/14/11 at 11:15 pm

Hello everyone.  Thanks for reading and for sharing your thoughts on this blog.  There are a lot of things to say, but it’s late and I simply have don’t have the energy or interest in a pissing match.  I have read all the comments and the only things for certain are:

1)  I stand by this blog 100%.
2)  I am not Jill Zarin, nor does she have anything to do with my blog.
3)  Bethenny Frankel is not honest with herself or her fans.
4)  Until Patricia Butler has something new to say, there is no need to post her comments.

This is MY blog.
Google that.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Comment by Ilana Angel on 10/14/11 at 11:18 pm

Patricia, you seem to have a lot of time to spend on a blog defending Bethenny from the looks of all your comments.  Regardless, if it was not her grandparents, than it was “her family”, excuse me for the misinterpreted semantics, but she has never mentioned that once, ever. I mean if you spent 99.5% of your time in a restaurant with family that she claims she never had…that’s a big percentage of time, wouldn’t you say?

I’m not denying that someone wouldn’t use connections or privileges afforded them, to their advantage, but then again, you can’t claim a rags to riches story.  And you shouldn’t be writing books about how to be a success when being a success a majority of the time is in the “luck” and “who you know”, especially when you are a hard worker.  Obviously you must not be a hard worker Patricia, because you can’t seem to understand that concept for some reason.

There are young celebrities out there that are not exaggerators and liars in the sense of how they became famous, whom I admire and like very much, i.e. Chelsea Handler and Jillian Michaels are just two women.  And they are very rich, smart, successful young women. I think that Chelsea Handler didn’t come from much and worked her butt off and became successful on her own merits.  I’m not sure of Jillian Michaels’ rise to stardom, but I find them to be worthy of their success from what I see. And that’s how I base my opinion of Bethenny…by what I see. And since she chooses to expose herself at every moment she is fair game for criticism.

And, regarding my friend, excuse me Patricia, but it is almost impossible for her to get any kind of break nearly as influential and helpful as what Bethenny was exposed to. Plus, Bethenny had all the money in the world. Apparently, you have never tried to start your own business, because then you would have some idea what I was talking about.

I also don’t believe for one second that she was penniless. No one can claim that they are so impoverished yet worried about their rent when they are able to afford and are living in a condo in Manhattan?  And if it was bought for her by a wealthy boyfriend or her father, than she has lost my respect even further.

She should learn how to be a bit more humble, grateful and appreciative of all those in her life that have helped her to get to where she is, in my opinion.  Rather than claiming she is a one man show.  That would show that someone had some integrity and then maybe be considered a decent role model.

Comment by Rose on 10/15/11 at 12:02 am

Rose: it seems like you’re just harboring a ton of resentment and anger about whatever is going on in your life, and redirecting all that rage toward Bethany. You seem consumed with envy and you are so judgmental about someone you really know nothing about, and I don’t know why you care so much about her life or why you feel so entitled to decide what you think she deserves or doesn’t. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and if people don’t like Bethany, I understand and respect their opinions, just as I would hope they do in return. Personally, I’m not a fan of Jill, but it has nothing to do with whether or not I think she deserves what she has, and I would never presume to know anything about her other than how she behaves on tv. Seriously, why do you care so much, and why are you so jealous?

Comment by Michael D on 10/15/11 at 12:30 am

Michael D: You become someone whose opinion is a total bore and who looks truly mean when your responses are filled with attacks on commentors, such as who they really are and how they really feel. We all know more about Bethenny than you probably know about Rose. So you are even more judgemental than you accuse others of being. And please learn how to spell Bethenny’s name correctly. You have spelled it wrong many times.

Wow! Patricia Butler you got yourself into a mess of trouble and looked very off. It is a blog.

I knew you made a joke about NYU. One in poor taste as all your jokes. But, FYI registrar will not without being a member of the press or with a written waiver say if some is a graduate at NYU at least they are not supposed to do that. They will say they attended, but that is personal and privileged information graduation and date.

The woman I mentioned was not someone random in Alumni Relations, but the director of Alumni Relations.

This issue is dead, but I don’t live and breathe responding to you. But, you obviously do.

Patricia you are so desperate to write on everything Bethenny you didn’t even notice that Ilana didn’t post anything about the financial statement filing with the SEC, which was ambigious and no one could have deduced actual purchase price. Many bloggers stated SK cocktails was not sold for $100M, but Forbes stood by it. I thought the price was well above $60M. Her after tax will be much less than 100M, but she did very well with the sale.

I was calling you Lynn or Bethenny as a joke. I don’t know who you are. Frankly you sound very troubled. I hope you seek help for your idol worship.  I really do not know why you can to comment on a blog or story so often when you do not have any new information to pass on other than to disagree with everyone.

As for my credentials they are more than fine.  I graduated from the Courant Institute of NYU as an undergraduate just for your information. MS and Phd I did at another University.

AS for the use of a thesis statement, mine was correct.

If you want to converse in French we can do so anytime you like. I am fluent.

This is a blog about TV. You have to understand it. We believe Bethenny lied. We believe we have proof. We have links to proof, but if you don’t think so then your opinion differs from our. That is all you needed to say and then move on to another subject or blog that suited you.

I hope you calm down. Wow!

Michael,

I didn’t comment for over 5 days. I think that was more than sufficient cooling off period. Think what you like, but Patricia Butler attacked me.  She not only made statements which were meant to be cruel, but also didn’t stop with her cruelty.

I don’t think I am not to blame for instigating, but I don’t think I need Michael Jackson lyrics to see that she is far more nefarious than I am.

That is why I said to her…Pot Call that Kettle Black. It is a far older idiom than MJ lyrics.

BRAVO is backing up Bethenny’s story. The crew & the doctor one the boat did not want to GUESS how to get to the shore. Bethenny never said the boat good not run. She said the GPS did not work. They needed to be shown how to get to the shore. I really do not care as I think reality TV is low budget sitcoms with people creating shows around their real lives. Joan River’s show with her daughter appeared a lot more made up just like Joan’s jokes than REAL situations. I did not enjoy her show nearly as much as Bethenny’s.

Comment by Bjan on 10/18/11 at 9:35 am

Is the writer of this blog or tug boat captain going to comment on Bethenny’s statement on The Today Show??? All the people on the boat are standing by Bethenny’s story. Will there be a retraction like Huffington Post over Rob Shuter’s inability to read financial documents???

Comment by Bjan on 10/18/11 at 1:32 pm

It’s obvious Bravo and Bethenney thought they would set up and script yet more bs by calling the Coast Guard however they failed to realize the CG does not “rescue” boats, only human beings. If there had been a problem with their boat, the CG would have had them board the CG vessel and their boat would have been left, stranded. Upon learning the CG would not rescue them - tow their boat, which did not have a problem, they were then forced to call a tow boat and fake the rescue story. That backfired, obviously.
Bravo needs to seriously look at what they are doing. Besides making a mockery of their “shows”, they are involving others, ruining lives and unjustly creating havoc within the lives of many. NO more of the scripted bs, Bravo. We know it’s all smoke and mirrors! Just scripted and edited bs. Bravo has no credibility nor does any of the “stars” they belive they’ve created. They are all proven liars. Fame seeking wannabes. It’s just comical now.

Comment by Just.BS. on 10/19/11 at 8:50 pm

Funny how Bethenny tried to move the focus towards Gulianna’s cancer on The Today Show.WOW That was low in my opinion.

Comment by Kerry on 10/20/11 at 9:34 am

Kerry, BRAVO and all on the boat claimed the GPS was and other equipment the BRAVO crew had was damaged by salt water. They did not want to GUESS how to return to shore. Bethenny explained this AGAIN on The Today Show. ALL other witnesses claim this tow boat guy is NOT telling the truth. He has quit responding. Did he get legal advice that told him to shut up???

Comment by Bjan on 10/20/11 at 12:19 pm

I have received many comments on this blog post from a woman named “Patricia Butler”.  She was going on and on about without sharing any real information, just complaining and eventually became rude, mean spirited and insanely argumentative.  I opted to not post her ongoing comments as this is not a forum for hate or fighting.  I love that we all have different opinions, and you can see that throughout the history of this blog, I have posted all comments, whether they agree with me or not.

Patricia was offended and wanted an explanation as to why I was not posting her comments.  I told her I was at work and would get back to her.  My meeting ended, I got busy with my son, it is the Jewish holidays and I simply have not had time to write her back.  She decided she could not longer wait and wrote me the following email:

“You’re the one who made the promise to get back to me with an explanation; I didn’t ask you to.  And that was 4 days ago.  The hliday ended two days ago. You just can’t tell the truth, can you?

This is my problem with you: You print lies, glory in the resulting attention, then evade and hide when confronted with the truth.  Again, you’ve been given a platform, and this is how you choose to use it.  You mistreat both the people you write about, and those who take exception to your false and misleading bigotry.

To be honest, I had only moderate interest in this whole thing until you pulled this.  Now I have a very real interest in making sure people look more closely at you and your blog.  You like attention?  Okay, let’s give you some attention.

Happy holidays.”

To clarify, I promised nothing, but graciously offered to address your questions.  The Jewish holidays ended last night.  I know this because I was temple for Simchat Torah with my son, watching him read Torah, which by the way he did brilliantly!

You have a little too much time on your hands Patricia, but if you want to threaten me, to fill the void between now and the time Bethenny’s lie fest is back on the air, then have at it sweetie.  Do whatever you need to do to make yourself happy.  Do not however, talk about the holidays of my faith as you are clearly an idiot in that regard.

I’m waiting fo the wrath of Patricia Butler to hit.  I’m so scared!  In the words of our beloved Teresa Guidice, “bring it on bitches.”

Comment by Ilana Angel on 10/21/11 at 10:46 am

Ilana,

I don’t think you need to worry about Patricia Butler. I wouldn’t worry about someone who says she is going to get you. This is your blog. You set the rules.

You even warned her ahead of time of what you did. Whatever…

As for Tim Russell and the GPS it seems strange to me that the Bethenny said they didn’t want to guess their destination when they gave the exact coordinates to Tow Captain.  You can only do that if you have your exact coordinates form a GPS. If their GPS broke 12 hours before the last hour of their 8 hour ride (if I remember correctly) they would have been adrift for 12 hours and no way would prior coordinates have been accurate. I sail for years and I know that to be true.

How they placed a gag order on Tim Russell might have been similar to the way Bravo placed a gag order on the incident in Punta Cana with RHWNJ. Look into that one…fyi…you will see Bravo in a very bad light.

I am sure Tim signed something. If he did, then they enforced the gag once he started to speak. However, if they defame him, then he can speak regardless of a gag order and Bravo/NBC/Comcast knows that.
