I would hardly call myself a luddite. I’m addicted to my e-mail, have become an expert on Cube Crash on Facebook, even met my husband on JDate.
But there is one thing I refuse to update: my datebook.
When I graduated from high school, a friend of my former stepmother’s bought me a Scully leather-bound day planner. For more than a decade I have been faithfully buying the replacement planner inserts (I’m a total dork as it is something I look forward to every November).
I love the feeling of writing something down and being able to cross it out when it is over. I can flip ahead and flip back without having to turn anything on.
I even saved my entire calendar from last year so I could keep track of all the insane things I did leading up to the wedding.
My husband, on the other hand, keeps track of important things in his computer, on his phone and somewhere in his memory banks (which means some stuff slips through the cracks from time to time).
I was born to organize and plan. I enjoy being the social secretary for the family (at least for the two of us). Similar to what the president goes through daily - my husband gets a briefing. This is what we have planned for this evening … or this weekend … or tomorrow morning.
For example: Friday Night, dinner with grandma; Saturday, adult b’nei mitzvah and party for a friend of ours and a concert that night in Orange County; Sunday, Father’s Day Brunch with my aunt and Father’s Day BBQ with my in-laws; Monday, old board-new board Sisterhood meeting (OK, that one’s mine, but if I don’t remind my hubby he worries).
It’s kind of fun to have your whole life – literally – in your hands. It has a spot on the side for papers, so I have the print outs our upcoming vacations, in order, of course, along with random pieces of paper that I can’t think of where to put, but I carry around with me because “you never know.”
I don’t think I’ll ever get into the Palm Pilot world, but I’m grateful every morning for our DVR. It’s one thing to have everything organized in my life and my husband’s life. It’s quite another to have to track the folks the “Big Brother” house, the boys on the “Bachelorette,” the Oceanic Six and the ladies of Wisteria Lane.

There is something about writing that connects you. I finally decided a couple of years ago that it’s okay if you are unable to do “everything” on a computer. Some things really are better unplugged, and time management is one of them.
LOL, I’ve used this same type of planner for years. I’ve tried and tried to convert to electronics, but I just can’t make the change. Glad to see someone else in the same shoes I am
Glad to know that I’m not alone. It’s not that i resist the computer world but I still feel that the good-old-planner is easier to handle.
My first year of college I got a “date book”, and never touched it for about a month. Then my school, personal and work schedule began to increase. I have faithfully used one ever since. Maybe I’m a creation of the 1980s but it works for me
completely agree with the above comment, the internet is with a doubt growing into the most important medium of communication across the globe and its due to sites like this that ideas are spreading so quickly.
this site is cool, nice website!!
I want to say that i just love this post. I wish I kept up with my datebook. I love making lists and being able to physically write down what I need to do and cross it off. Palmpilots are useful tools, but they will never give me the satisfaction of being back in college and crossing off those assignments in my little book. I need to start doing that again because I am completely disorganized!
Haha orginization is the key to life!

The surveys are short and anonymous, so they don’t require a lot of time or present risk to those who participate.
The first posted survey is on the topic of labels. It’s only 10 questions and takes just a couple minutes to complete, so go for it!

i, too write my thoughts on paper about life and the relationships i have and make notes about my business on my pc .. hehe ..
i used to date using online websites but now i don’t find this usefull anymore ... glad it worked for you tho
just my 2 cents
Causes of Damage
Not surprisingly, most damage to books is the result of improper handling. Covers fall off, bindings split, pages come lose and paper tears. Poor storage and environmental factors are other sources of harm. All of these factors have a direct bearing on the longevity of a book and its binding. Leather bindings are particularly susceptible to atmospheric pollutants such as sulphur dioxide.
Journals can come very handy, but with the technology pacing up, I think using a computer would be more realistic.
It’s good to keep your life organized as long as you’re not too OC about it. If you are OC you’ll find yourself handling stress you yourself created.
I think it would be more convenient to have a digital planner. A digital planner would be more advanced in terms of organizational programs and it’s more flexible.
I think the more info you keep in digital format, the more open you are to identity theft. I used to keep financial stuff in my palm pilot until I had it stolen.
tnx for data sharing ! i very like your post and hope to read more from your blog
Really? I would much rather have my planner on a computer. It’s more convenient that way, plus, with a palmtop, you lessen a few pounds from your bag.
...and you never have to worry about your leather planner’s battery running low!
I never really like the organizer. It seems that all had a special size and format so that they could overcharge you for the refills.
I use my mobile phone for all my planning, including remembers etc. It is basic but it does the trick for me. sobakawa pillow and black leather chair
I wanted to thank you for this great read!! I definitely enjoying every little bit of it
I live in London - busy busy life ! And I have a system on my pone that works just like your diary ... sometimes though I year for the old pen and paper. Nice post ... keep it up !
