A Palestinian man was shot and killed after he attacked an Israeli soldier and tried to take his rifle at the Jordan border crossing.

Israeli military forces fired at the man after he attempted to seize the soldier’s weapon in Monday’s incident, the Israel Defense Forces said.

The Palestinian was identified as Raed Alaa Addin Zieter, 38, from Nablus in the West Bank, the Palestinian Maan news agency reported. According to Maan, he left the West Bank in 2011 and had not returned.

Zieter reportedly was part of a group of Palestinians who got off a on the Israeli side of the border crossing for a security check. He yelled “Allahu Akhbar,” or “God is great,” as he ran toward the soldier, Ynet reported.

The border crossing between Jordan and the West Bank was closed in the wake of the incident.
