The Matchmaker (in Hebrew: “Pa'am Haiti”/ “Once I was,”) is a 2010 Israeli film,  directed and produced by Avi Nesher and starring Tuval Shafir, Maya Dagan, Adir Miller and many other well- known Israeli actors. It premiered as an official selection at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival and later that year won the Silver Plaque award at the Chicago International Film Festival. It received seven nominations for Israel’s Ophir Awards in 2010, and won Adir Miller the “best actor” award.

Based on the novel When Heroes Fly, written by Amir Gutfreund, The Matchmaker tells the story of a teenage boy who starts to work for a matchmaker who survived the Holocaust, during the summer of 1968. During the summer, the child learns a thing or two about life, but also changes the life of the lonely, bitter, matchmaker. Along the way, the young boy is being introduced to colorful characters, all in search of love, and also meet his first teenage crush- a young girl who has just returned from America and is full of talk of women's rights, free love and rock and roll.
