U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano met with Israeli officials in Jerusalem to discuss security.
Along with the meetings, Napolitano on Sunday in Jerusalem also signed a joint statement with Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman on the implementation of the Global Entry trusted traveler program for Israeli citizens.
She met with Interior Minister Eli Yishai, Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich, Israel National Police Commissioner Yochanan Danino and the director of the National Cyber Bureau, Dr. Eviatar Matania.
Napolitano was scheduled to speak Monday on the Homeland Security Department’s collaboration with international partners to combat terrorism, and facilitate trade and travel, at Israel’s International Institute for Counter-Terrorism.
During the signing of the statement on the Global Entry program, which will allow Israeli travelers who frequently visit the United States to have expedited processing when entering the United States, Napolitano said the agreement is “part of the United States’ strong and enduring partnership with Israel, dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of both our countries.”
Napolitano will travel to Jordan on Tuesday and Wednesday. She will deliver remarks on women in security at the Columbia University Middle East Research Center in Amman, and meet with King Abdullah II, Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh and other Jordanian ministers, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
