Israeli natural gas field is significant find

A natural gas field discovered in Israel’s territorial waters contains an esimated 16 trillion cubic feet of the natural resource.

Electrical log tests confirmed the size of the natural gas field, which was discovered in drilling earlier this year off the Mediterranean coast near Haifa and dubbed “Leviathan.” Noble Energy Inc. announced the results of the tests on Wednesday.

Leviathan is almost double the size of the Tamar field, which was discovered off Israel’s Mediterranean coast in 2009.

“This discovery has the potential to position Israel as a natural gas exporting nation,” said David L. Stover, president of Noble Energy.

The field is said to be the largest discovery in the history of the Houston-based company, which has a controlling interest in the field.
