Golan Heights fire damages 500 acres

A fire on the Golan Heights damaged nearly 500 acres, including nature reserve territory and grazing land.

The fire started Saturday morning near the Hexagon Pools nature reserve and was put out by 5 p.m.

Visitors to the area were evacuated as the fire began spreading quickly due to dry winds, according to reports.

Firefighters used two of the new firefighting airplanes acquired following the massive Carmel forest fire last December. The fire caused some unexploded landmines to detonate.

Arson is expected in the blaze, Ynet reported.
