My piece this week in the Times of Israel places the spotlight on the "Shulamit Gallery" in the L.A. artists neighboorhood of Venice which is showcasing the art works of more than a dozen promising and successful Iranian Jewish artists. These artists are no doubt pioneers in the Iranian American Jewish community for breaking with their community's long taboo of not working in the field of art. They have instead followed their dreams and their creaitve passions to make art-- even if their income is not high at the begining. Iranian Jewish artists such as Jessica Shokrian, Krista Nassi, David Abir and others deserve kudos for trailblazing a new path that adds to the richness of their community's culture and not necessarily seeking financial gain. Likewise Shulamit Nazarian, who established the new gallery showcase these artists work deserves a tremendous amount of praise for pushing the envelope in the community and sharing a different side of this community's heritage.
