After converting for her storybook wedding, billionaire heiress Ivanka Trump, 27, married New York Observer publisher Jared Kushner, 28, in an Orthodox ceremony at Trump National Golf Course in New Jersey.
The couple was married by prominent New York rabbi, Haskel Lookstein, who also coached Trump through her yearlong conversion.
Things weren’t always smooth sailing for the couple of moguls, though. According to a profile of Kushner in New York Magazine:
Dating Ivanka was fraught with family peril. Though she is converting to Judaism, studying with Rabbi Haskel Lookstein at Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun on East 85th Street, it has not always been easy. Jared’s mother, in particular, has struggled with their relationship. Last summer, Seryl told Jared to cool it. They broke up for a time but soon got back together.
Ivanka told me she and Jared plan to marry, but they aren’t officially engaged. “I am studying,” she said of her conversion, “and it’s been an amazing and fulfilling experience for me ... One of the jokes I first started making when Jared and I first started dating is, I’m a New Yorker, I’m in real estate. I’m as close to Jewish, with an ‘i-s-h’ naturally as anyone can start off.”
According to the New York Post, the 500 guests at the wedding included Andrew Cuomo, Barbara Walters, Anna Wintour, Rudy Giuliani, Joel Klein and Sheldon Silver, as well as Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell and ex-New Jersey Gov. Jim McGreevey. From Hollywood, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman and actress Emmy Rossum attended.
The Huffington Post notes that Barbara Walters discussed the “absolutely gorgeous but not ‘glitzy’ wedding” (yeah right) on The View earlier today and gave the audience a peak at the invitation, which was in English on one side and Hebrew on the other.
Next up, the couple announces the birth of Moses.

Ivanka’s “conversion” was a fraud and only done for marriage. Ivanka’s “conversion” was completed in 8 months and was done just to get married to Jared Kushner. Orthodox conversions take 2-4 years to complete and are never done for the reason of marriage.
Ivanka’s wedding was a “Big fat interfaith marriage.” There was nothing Jewish about it.
As 50% of marriages end in divorce anyway, there is a strong likelihood that the couple will divorce at some point in the future. I wonder will Ivanka retain her Jewish faith? Jemima Goldsmith, daughter of a prominent British Jewish millionaire family converted to Judaism to marry Pakistani cricketer Imran Khan. They have since divorced and Jemima has been linked with actor Hugh Grant among others, and dressed in extremely “unmuslim” attire…..............
Does this make him the gold digger?
Whoops! She already was Jewish, she converted to Islam! But, yeah I guess that did make Khan a “Gold"digger!!!! Although, he was pretty wealthy in his own right.
Your Jewish Wedding Day
By D.K.Milgrim-Heath
Ivanka and Jared be blessed on your Jewish wedding Day-
Always keep your faith true in each and every way.
I am Jewsh myself so I know how you really feel-
Make a happy Jewish home so loving and real.
By loving each other you’ve made a blessed start-
Follow our ancient laws deeply within your heart.
Show your family and the world what you do convey-
Loving God’s a blessing and so continue to obay.
God surely blessed your union by His mighty will-
With time your love will grow much stronger still.
Again Ivanka and Jared may you be forever blessed-
Your wedding day is your true personal religious test!
Pardon me, but there is NO WAY they had an Orthodox ceremony. I didn’t see a kepaws on the men, there were diamonds everywhere and women and men were dancing together. I’d be interested to know if all of the food was strictly kosher??? Bet you it was a “orthodox style” wedding. Anyway, Mazel Tov!
Again, Ivanka’s conversion was not a full year. She is not dressed like an Orthodox Jewish woman in this photo. Her elbows are not covered and see through lace doesn’t count as covering the body. She wants to marry Jared…. fine, but don’t make a mockery of Orthodox Judaism and Orthodox conversions. Lookstein just did the conversion for politics. He wants conversions watered down until they are handed out in a Cracker Jack box. He said as much before Ivanka came along.
I never saw an orthodox conversion that took such a short time. I guess in this recession you can’t blame this respected rabbi for taking a large donation for his shul
What is interesting is that they even printed specials edition Hebrew prayer books (aka benchers) with English translation for the wedding event.
They were trying to get it as jewish as possible.
Has anyone seen any pictures out there of the ceremony and reception? I am sure it was stunning considering the budget she was probably given!
I wrote my toast for my sister’s wedding on the train ride to the wedding. I wrote it on an envelope. I read it through a couple times. At the reception, the best man introduced me. I started to read my toast and, two sentences into it, I burst into tears. I wasn’t scared or anything….but I was so overwhelmed with happiness and emotion. My sister came over and put her arms around me as I read the rest and we were both crying by the end.
Ivanka writes on her twitter page on 11/16/2009
# Just left dinner at the Standard Grill…sampled more desserts than was absolutely necessary 7:01 PM Nov 16th from Uber Twitter
Conversion to Judaism looks fraud. Eating in a none kosher restaurant.
I forgot to write, Jared kushner removed his kippah after the Chupah.
The whole thing was a goyish style.
Jared is not eating kosher food at all!
Why Ivanka is not using her new Hebrew name Yael?
I wonder what type of wedding music they played?
whos wedding was it anyways, it seems it was Jared Kushners mothers wedding since she laid down the law and “made” ther convert so they can get married, ow she is more powerful than Ivanka and not even related. For Jared, how stupid, stand up and seperate yourself from moms nipple…whimp! I am sorry but I will and did get married to whom I love not my parents, I have to live with the person. For Ivanka—-she sold herself for money and acceptance, waht a joke, religion is stupid and divisive.
I’ve met this Rabbi Lookstien as I have performed at his synagogue “KJ” several times. This Rabbi has some very lenient opinions which would make him seem more conservative than orthodox. This whole affair is quite strange.
It would be most interesting to know just what an “absolutely gorgeous but not ‘glitzy’ wedding” would cost!
Sensational! Picture is gorgeous.
I can’t believe the judgment here for complete strangers. How sad.
Catholic Lady- If someone claimed to be a devout Christian and practiced paganism, you have something to say about it. So shut up already.
I understand that you question her conversion but 1st off Jared isnt exactly strict in his observance… 2nd and more importantly it is a much bigger sin to denounce a convert than it is to wear lace as tznius on your wedding day. Whether or not you believe her conversion was sincere is irrelevant! That is between her, her rabbi, and the Beit Din that oversaw her conversion. You have no idea how long she had been studying Judaism on her own before officially beginning the conversion process… if you arent starting from scratch it doesnt take as long! Bottom line is if you are so adherant to halacha you should know better than to harass a convert!
What a beautiful wedding dress!
Amanda- Now we are talking about sin? I don’t think you want to go there, you little preachy thing. This is a social network site, not the Yeshiva. Lighten up! Shalom.
To have a jewish wedding in a synagogue does both the bride and groome have to be jewish?
I guessing Ivanka Trump is the daughter of Donald, correct?
the groom should have converted to christianity. To covert to judaism is to fall from grace of jesus back to the law of moses
Jared should have converted. It would have been much easier for both of them and more honest.
It sounds like they really love and respect each other and their views and values in life. I wish them a long and happy marriage.
I wish them a very long and happy marriage.
Jesus was Jewish, so how could you make a comment that she would fall from the grace of Jesus. His last supper he was celebrating Passover.
