Christians and Jews both believe that there is a single God who created our world, who loves us, who wants us to be happy, who protects His followers, and who has set down rules which will lead us to a happy and good life. The scriptures which tell of the early days of God’s people and his laws are in the Old Testament of the Bible.
Different: Jews believe that He is a unique God to the Jewish people and that the promised Messiah who will finally save them has not yet come.
Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah who came to fulfil God’s promises to the Jews but that these promises, of forgiveness and eternal life, are open to anyone who loves and trusts God, not just Jews. Christ’s teachings, his life, death and resurrection, and the teachings of the early Christian church are recorded in the New Testament of the Bible.
There are differences of culture and tradition too.
Jews have temples or synagogues, their ministers are called rabbis, their holy day is Saturday, they circumcise their menfolk and they follow strict dietary rules.
Christians have churches or chapels, their ministers are called priests or pastors, their holy day is Sunday and while they have no strict dietary rules, some Christian groups do not drink alcohol.
