I notice in the JJ a plea to eschew inappropriate use of the term “Holocaust.”
OK, while we’re at it, let’s drop the promiscuous use of “Nazi” for whatever or whomever you don’t happen to like or think too strict.
Wikipedia traces the origins of this hyphenated usage to an episode of Seinfeld: “Jerry, George and Elaine go out to a new soup stand Kramer has been raving about; its owner is referred to as the “Soup Nazi” due to his temperament and insistence on a strict manner of behavior while ordering.”
“[...]-Nazi” has entered the language of people – mostly but not exclusively young – who know little or nothing about the Shoah. Jews, particularly, should stop and realize that they’re debasing the memory of our martyrs by equating a tasteless sitcom joke character to the SS trooper who shoveled their grandmother into the oven.
