I have a radio show Live without Limits and as a Career Coach I work with clients to find their passion and make a career out of it. The job market has changed dramatically over the last 100 years. We have come full circle from where we were when the Europeans came here. They took their wares and sold them on street corners on pushcarts. Today we sell our services or products on a website (storefront) using the Internet. Just they were small businessmen, so today we have gone back to the small businessman, the only thing that has changed is how and where we are doing business today.
According to the Department of Labor unemployment is over 10% The problem is that the job market has changed with the advent of the use of computers and the use of the Internet.
Jobs that existed 10 years ago don’t exist today, jobs that exist today didn’t exist 10 years ago do today, and there will be jobs in the future that haven’t been invented yet.
If people will embrace the new technology and learn to use it effectively they can find a new career not just a job.
I work with clients to help them find their passion and turn it into an income. I’m an expert on this topic because when I entered the workplace there were few opportunities for people with disabilities in the workplace and I had to make my own opportunity in the workplace. Laws have opened the doors but with the job market the way it is there are even less opportunity for people with disabilities that is why I established a NPO International Disabled Entrepreneurs, Inc. to teach people with disabilities the skills they need to have their own business and offer low interest loans.
We have to retrain ourselves of what is a job today and how we look for a job!
