“Water Swing” is originated in the Song Dynasty. It is similar to today’as diving without the springboard but a swing board set up on the fore of a boat. The performer shall swing high to run parallel to the board and loop into the water. It was an evolvement of acrobatics in the Song Dynasty and plays an important role in Chinese acrobatics history.

Temple Ami Shalom in West Covina has a new rabbi: Michael Barclay. A graduate of UC Berkley and the Academy for Jewish Religion, Rabbi Barclay has more than twenty-five years of experience leading Jewish congregations and guiding individuals of the Jewish faith. He is the Hillel director at Loyola Marymount University, where he also teaches at the school of theological studies. His goals for Temple Ami Shalom include creating a center of education and worship for the community. According to Barclay, “We need to build something more substantial than a place where people come once a year for the High Holidays. We need to create a meaningful center for religious, social and personal growth, filled with depth, joy and passion.” The Rabbi has already arranged a series of classes on Tuesdays, as well as brought in a musical leader, Michael Sarota. Moreover, a concert has been planned featuring shofar player extraordinaire, David Zasloff.

For those interested in learning more about Rabbi Barclay and Temple Ami Shalom, or if you are interested in attending the Temple’s FREE High Holiday services, please call (626) 331-0515.

You are also encouraged to visit the Temple’s website at: AmiShalom.org
