Description

Dr. Arie Schachner, Vice President and co-founder of Save A Child’s Heart will be speaking during shabbat evening services on Friday, January 25, 2013 beginning at 7:30 PM at Kehillat Israel Reconstructionist Congregation, 16019 Sunset Blvd., Pacific Palisades, CA 90272.

After serving as a major in the Israel Defense Forces, Dr. Schachner graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University in 1969. In 1991, Prof. Schachner founded the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Edith Wolfson Medical Center in Holon, Israel.  He led the department until his retirement in March 2007 and co-founded the Save a Child’s Heart Foundation with late Dr. Ami Cohen.

Save a Child’s Heart (SACH) is an Israel-based international humanitarian project, whose mission is to improve the quality of pediatric cardiac care for children from developing countries who suffer from heart disease and to create centers of competence in these countries. To date SACH has provided care to over 3,000 children from Africa, South America, Europe, Asia and throughout the Middle East.

Many of the children come from areas ravaged by war and nature such as Iraq, Haiti, Sri Lanka and the Palestinian Authority. For the vast majority, every penny of their medical costs are covered by SACH and its partners, from the moment a child comes under our care until they have fully recovered - even if they require a lifetime of check-ups. SACH is completely dedicated to the idea that every child deserves the best medical treatment available regardless of the child’s nationality, religion, race, gender, or financial situation.

In 2012 SACH received the Israeli Presidential Award for Volunteerism from President Shimon Peres. In 2010 Save a Child’s Heart was awarded China’s National Friendship Medal, the highest honor China awards to foreign experts, noting SACH’s dedication and outstanding results in affecting China’s health development.
