Reading to Kids September Reading Clubs

Join Reading to Kids on August 13th for a morning of reading, crafts, and inspiration! Reading to Kids conducts Reading Clubs on the second Saturday of each month at four Los Angeles schools. Reading to Kids’ mission is to inspire underserved children with a love of reading.  At the Reading Clubs, volunteers receive training and breakfast on-site, then pairs of volunteers are matched with 4 to 8 children and spend about an hour and a half reading aloud to the kids and working on a craft project.  Volunteers are in by 9 and out by 12! This is a fun and easy way to help out in the community! Please sign up for this opportunity on our website at www.readingtokids.org.  If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at (310) 479-7455.

New Old Friends

I've recently become close with Abe and Frank, two older guys in my neighborhood. At 90 and 88 respectively, they’re not the typical age of my other friends. At first I wasn’t sure if it was friendship. Maybe they were just humoring me or passing the time. Why would old people want to be friends with me, a 35-year-old?
