Sponsored by the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau (see race website for complete list of sponsors).

Race schedule:
6:00 am - Registration opens
7:00 am - Costume Contest/Judging

8:15 am - Baby Buggy 10K Run
8:30 am - 10K Run

Where: Redondo Beach, California, Redondo Beach Seaside Lagoon, 200 Portofino Way.

When: Race - Sunday, February 3, 2013; Health & Fitness Expo Saturday/Sunday, February 2 & 3.

Highlights: This lively, colorful event includes the fun, outrageous costume contest, a tradition for the past 25 years.  Members of the King Harbor Assn. group are mainstays of the contest, each year selecting a topical theme for their costumes. In 1988 when Florence Joyner won an Olympic gold medal in South Korea, the group all dressed as Flo Jo; they’ve done the Sgt. Pepper Beatles, and Madonna’s Blond Ambition dressing up in hilarious bustiers with pointed bras.  The year Martha Stewart went to prison, they were the Running Martha’s dressed in striped prison garb and wearing garden gloves as they wielded spoons and spatulas.

The King Harbor Assn. group will walk in the 5/K, and you’ll hear them coming, because they have taped music set up in a baby buggy. These fabulous ladies won’t disappoint!

50 Plus
New Old Friends

I've recently become close with Abe and Frank, two older guys in my neighborhood. At 90 and 88 respectively, they’re not the typical age of my other friends. At first I wasn’t sure if it was friendship. Maybe they were just humoring me or passing the time. Why would old people want to be friends with me, a 35-year-old?
