Neil Simon’s romantic story of tangled loves and lives, is one of the Tony Award and Pulitzer Neil Prize-winning playwright’s latest works, and is filled with Simon’s legendary wit and humor. Hearts are at the core of the dramatic comedy, which explores love in its many forms. The play tells the charmingly nostalgic story of nine characters whose lives intertwine one summer in the Poconos, and the romantic complications that ensue—the heartache of lost love, the thrill of new love and the bittersweet reunion of past love. Told through the memory of the Hines family’s longtime housekeeper, Clemma, who narrates the play, “Proposals” recalls the final gathering of the family at their summer retreat in 1953. The result is a touching and poignant tale of loyalty, honesty and hilarity.
