With advanced medicine and better standards of life people live longer. Beyond physical and mental health, it is the cognitive sharpness that many desire to maintain. As we will learn in this class, cognitive, mental, and physical health are all part and parcel of each other. Topics to be discussed include: The ever-changing brain, review of the various brain changes associated with normal aging; extensive review of recent research findings in the area of longevity; introduction to some of the most current techniques being implemented toward cognitive improvement and longevity and review of research associated with age-related disorders, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Dr. Gaines is a neuroscientist researching traumatic brain injury and aging at the Veterans Affairs and UCLA, the lead innovator of the Mind-Body Connection technique implemented at the UCLA Longevity Center, and an international professional speaker.
