Healing community rises from life-threatening illness

(Page 2 - Previous Page)

"When I was sick with little energy, what kept me going was the question, 'What cards have I been dealt today?'" Howard said. "It's not about yesterday or the future. It's not cumulative. It's being real about what is in front of you and showing up for what is there. It's the only thing we have."

A meditative healing service of light for the Chanukah season will be held Dec. 18. Healing services for 2007 are scheduled Jan. 22, Feb. 26, March 26, April 23, May 28 and June 25 at Temple Beth Am, 1039 S. La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Call (310) 652-7353 for reservations.

To learn more about the Jewish Healing and Hospice Center of Los Angeles, contact Rabbi Carla Howard, 10573 W. Pico Blvd., Suite 850, Los Angeles, 90064; (310) 435-0510.
