Group hopes Gaucher becomes household name

Coming off that success, Margolis is already planning a national Deli-Thon for next year; he's enlisted delis in San Francisco, New York, Chicago and Florida. He's looking for disease advocates for other Jewish-associated genetic diseases to partner with JADAC to produce more informational DVDs. And, he said, JADAC may "dream up other things to do in the meanwhile."

"A lot of our ideas are silly and funny ideas," Margolis said. "We might commission a giant spleen sculpture to display in a high-density Jewish neighborhood, because it will attract attention."

"The idea is to do an upbeat, very positive campaign."
