Israeli Consulate Debuts Digital Diplomacy

Consul General of Israel Jacob Dayan answered questions relating to the Middle East during the L.A. Israeli Consulate’s first Israel Digital Diplomacy Live online forum held on Sept. 23. The broadcast, streamed live on UStream, lasted 33 minutes and attracted a total of 96 viewers, who submitted their questions in real time via e-mail, Twitter, Facebook and UStream.

Dayan addressed Israeli settlements in the West Bank, the Toronto Film Festival controversy (“We are accepting the repentance of Jane Fonda during these days of repentance”), the shape of the Israeli economy (“I highly recommend investing in Israel’s real estate market”), Israel’s desire to strengthen ties with South America, Israel’s cutting-edge environmental research and the consulate’s outreach to non-Jewish communities in Los Angeles to “shatter stereotypes” about Israel. Similar forums will be offered by the consulate on a monthly basis and, as needed, in response to breaking news.
